    Cannot connect from Emulator

    Hi,
I'm new to S60 developing. I'm tryin got make the emulator be able to connect to the internet, but every time I open a URL I get a message:
    Uncategorised
    1 access point
I even tried to set up a local proxy and use it specifying it in the Preferences but I get the same result.
    I'm using Vista.

Is there something I can do?
    thanks in advance

Some issues related to vista might be the reason. Check

    Re: Cannot connect from Emulator

So what happens after you select the access point? Any particular error?

Are you getting this error when using emulator's browser or from your own application?

As for the fact that you're using Vista this should not matter, it would be more relevant to know which SDK are you using (I'm guessing S60 3rd Edition, FP2).

Make sure your firewall (the Windows Firewall or any additional you may have installed) is not blocking the emulator.

    Re: Cannot connect from Emulator

    Thanks fo replying.

Stupid me I wasn't going on, I though it was stuck there it was enough to confirm and then it worked!

Then I tried to play a video from youtube on the eumlator, but it just gave me a similar error. Can you play a you tube video from the Emulator?

    Thanks again

Similar to ... what? One can only help you if one knows the exact error code. Nor have you mentioned the SDK version either.

    Re: Cannot connect from Emulator

    I'm using S60 3rd Edition, FP2.

I go to YouTube select a video to play, then I see realPlayer starts. Then a message "Define default access point first" and after few second it asks to save the file.

Basically what I want to achive is to play a video via HTTP, progressively download it. YouTube was just to test the videoplaying to then implement my own solution. But it seems that the video player embedded is only RealPlayer.

Now I don't want to go off topic, maybe I'll post a new thread.

    Re: Cannot connect from Emulator

You still have not mentioned any error code or message.

When you open www.youtube.com in emulator's browser you are automatically redirected to http://m.youtube.com where you can access some of the video content in .3gp format. The files are opened in the media player which in turn may ask you for a connection (if not already configured through its settings). Then the file may or may not play, depending on the encoding. Please note that the emulator supports a limited set of video and audio codecs.

You can chose to go to the desktop version of the web site (http://www.youtube.com) but it will not work in the emulator since the flash plug-in is missing.

    Re: "UnCategeorised Access Point" "WinSock"

    Hi,
I am new to Symbian OS world.
I tried to run the sample code "exampleclient" found under "Symbian\9.2\S60_3rd_FP1\Examples\AppProts\ on emulator.
When the application starts it shows the message as "Application closed : Main CEcmtServer 3", after saying "OK" it displays next screen.
then after giving URL(sample application asks for the URL),it asks for selection Access point as "Winsock"(only one option is displayed).
After selecting this option,it gives error code as "-7361".

I haven't changed anything in the sample application,so I think the problem is with my setting.
I not using any proxy setting.
I installed "Ethernet plug-in" but still the problem persists.
    I am using 3rd Edition FP1 SDK.

Please let me know wht could be the reason/problems?

    Thnx in advance.

    -7361
    KErrHttpGeneralHeaderMissingHost
The request URI was relative, but no Host header was set to indicate a server to connect to
You can download the error codes spreadsheet from here - http://developer.symbian.com/main/do...odesLatest.zip

    Re: "UnCategeorised Access Point" "WinSock"

    Thnx for ur reply.
I was entering the URI as www.google.co.in instead of http://www.google.co.in/.
    It worked now.
error code spreadsheet helped to identify the error.
