ePLMN list on the SIM card

    Hi,

we can get MCC and MNC from the SIM card. When a mobile is roaming it can connect with a different network. Preferred networks seem to be stored on the SIM card as a ePLMN list. Is there an API to fetch the ePLMN list from the SIM card?

For an explanation of how ePLMN and handover works see:

    http://www.huawei.com/publications/v...=5246&pid=2043

Is there also a possibility that the network broadcasts the ePLMN list? Instead of having the ePLMN list stored on the SIM card?

    BR,

Most of the APIs for accessing SIM are not included in public SDKs, also quite oftem they are not S60 APIs, which would mean that usually they can only be accessed by partnering directly with Symbian.

    Hi,

can you tell me which APIs from Symbian I could use for this purpose? Or do I have to go to SDN(++)?

I don't know the API name, and even if I would, I would not discuss the names of non-public APIs in public forum, unless it is well known name.

Re: ePLMN list on the SIM card

    Hi,

I have seen we can detect whether the mobile is roaming using CTelephony::GetNetworkRegistrationStatus(). What are the criteria for this routine to decide whether the mobile is roaming?

    E.g. T-Mobile in Germany (MCC=262) has multiple MNCs (01 and 06). See www.wikipedia.org.

Will it report that we are in the home network if we move from T-Mobile net 01 into 06 within Germany?

    1. Or should we test this ourselves?
    2. Or would it be a better idea if the documentation got updated telling the criteria when the mobile is roaming and when it is in the home network.
    3. Or is the decision as simple as this: if MCC != home MCC || MNC != home MNC => roaming.

    BR,
