Adding my application icon to the Symbian built-in menus

    Hello everybody,

Is that possible to add my application icon to the Symbian built-in menus?

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

Find an application that does exactly what you need and use it as an example/reference.

If the source code is available (SDK or Forum Nokia example) then you can see within it how the feature was implemented.

If you cannot find any application implementing the feature you need it is likely that the feature is not supported. Anyhow, if you describe it better we will try to help.

Re: Adding my application icon to the Symbian built-in menus

    Hello Wizard_hu_ and Itomuta,

Thank you for your quick reply, actually i have searched all the wiki articles, forum and searching google, but i found nothing regarding this issue.

Actually i am developing an application that search on contacts and phone numbers and store them in external database, so i would like that my user when he received a missed call, from the Phone log -> Missed calls -> Press options and click on my application icon in that menu ( options ) to search this number in my application database.

So, all i want to know ,, is that possible to add my application icon to the options menu?

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Leonard

You cannot embed your commands in other application's menus (not other application can insert their commands in your menu) unless a well defined plug-in interface is defined.

As far as I know the Logs application does not open any door for a 3rd party app to use its menus.

    Thank you Itomuta,

I was hoping to make this feature in my application, but it seems that Symbian will restrict and prevent developers from doing it.

That is what Symbian always do ;)

    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Leonard

Re: Adding my application icon to the Symbian built-in menus

Logs application comes from S60 platform, not Symbian.
And actually it has an extension interface, similar to the extension interface of Phonebook ("discussed" in http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...d.php?t=123889), and most probably it is inaccessible for 3rd party developers in a similar way.

Hi, wizard_hu_, thank you for very interesting information. I was not familiar with it. Do you know any other built-in applications that support inserting commands to their menu? In particular i'm interested in File Mgr.

Actually there are a couple, but I have signed an NDA, thus this kind of discussion is uncomfortable to me in general.
In particular Messaging application can be extended via MTM-s, in a publically available, documented way.

Usually you also need some internal classes from the given application. And also, in general, it is quite unlikely that you could "guess" on complex interfaces without any documentation.
Though I have no experience with API partnering, in the linked thread Jack Torrance stated pretty clear that these extension API-s count as sensitive ones, and they are hard to get.

    Hi, wizard_hu_,
many thanks for details. Аctually i don't need to extend Messaging via MTM-s, i have another idea, but i think that my partnership with Nokia is not enougt to get access to that extension api.
I have last question for you. Could you confirm that you exacty signed NDA with S60?

    Mr.Y
