Dont know what to name this thread!

    Hello guys,

I am developing an application that runs at the mobile startup and it is a console based application.

This is the first time i used the Startup List Management API-s
for the console based applications, ( Anyways, there is no difference between the GUI and Console in the Startup API-s

The application does not started at the startup, OK

But i want to know something ,, in my sis folder i have two pkg files which is really strange.

Does anyone knows, why there is two pkg files?

    Thank in advance.
    Regards,
    Leonard

You may want to check the contents of those .pkg files, can it happen that you simply copied one of them from an external source (like an example)?
Anyway there is a more or less recent thread about autostart, check my findings in #39 of http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...d.php?t=138079

    I guessed right then.

Well EKA stands for Epoc Kernel Architecture
EKA1 is 32 bit kernel which was released in 1997. Which is there in Symbian OS before 8.1b.
EKA2 is second release of Symbian OS kernel. It can be found in S60 3rd edition devices( or Symbian OS 8.1b and above).

So in your case you have to build for EKA2 as you are developing S60 3rd edition.

    I hope this helps,
    Kiran.

Re: Dont know what to name this thread!

You mention the use of Startup Management List and this means that you are targeting S60 3rd Edition devices which effectively means EKA2. Presumably your *_EKA1.pkg is totally unsuitable for you as the name indicates that the file creates an installation SIS file for EKA1 (Symbian OS pre-v9.1).

My advice: see the link in my signature and focus a bit on paragraph #9 (after going through #1-#8 of course)

Re: Dont know what to name this thread!

Thank you itomuta for your great suggestions, Actually i am not working with Symbian C++ without reading and searching for the basis, but this is the first time i saw the two pkg files in the same sis folder, So i know now that each one for different version.

But your advice was in the right place, which is understanding the basic HelloWorld before starting any development for any GUI application.

    Thank you.

Kiran: i have build for the _EKA2.pkg, create the SIS file and signed it online ,, but it seems that nothing is working!

    Strange!

I checked the _EKA2.pkg, resource and mmp files , but there is nothing unusual.

    Thanks in advance.

It might be late reply but do you still face the same issue or you got rid of it already?

Re: Dont know what to name this thread!

    Hello Kiran,

Thank you for your response and i am so sorry for the belated response.

I think i am in the wrong way, here is my issue:

I am developing a GUI application, and it is really fine, but the case is i want to click\press on the Hash Key from the Idle\Standby screen so that my application will run ,, you know pressing Hash Key from the Idle screen will change the user mode to silent mode, so i should override the behavior of the hash key.

Actually i am working around this issue, like this:

1)make a console\Server application that runs always in the background and auto started when the mobile startup.
2)if the user click on the hash, the server will capture the key and run the application .

Am i in the right way, or there is a better solution for this,
Please provide me a suggestions, guidelines, links.

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Leonard

Re: Dont know what to name this thread!

Depending on the size of your GUI application you may consider simply running that in the background, and bring it to the foreground on the given keypress. Search for foreground and background in the Wiki, and check AppUi::HideApplicationFromFSW.
