    Flash message using canvas

    Hi all,

I am trying to do an alert kind of thing using a canvas. in elaborate - when my application will be idle(not launched) I want my application to flash a message using canvas(just to be colorful), i am able to launch my application using pushregistry kinda thing. my exact problem is, if i use any displayable my application will come into picture, rather, i just want to show an alert kind of thing(just some part or in the middle of the screen). I am not able to do so. please anybody gimme suggestions.

    thanks in advance,
    chetan.

hi jappit, thanks for the reply.
i think i confused you in my question. what i want to do is...
-> what ever the user may be doing mean to say in which ever screen he may be, i want to flash him a message (better to be using Canvas) on small part of the screen. for example as alert shown when "Charging" starts in a handset or when a message arrives.
but usually what happens is, when ever my midlet gets activated it completely comes in to foreground leaving the present screen to background irrespective of the displayable i use. i dont want like this, only an alert kinda thing is enough for me.
i think now my question is complete.

    Hi chetan,

if I have well understood, you want to have a background Java ME app showing alert/popup messages while user is using other phone funcionalities. If this is your case, then you cannot do this in Java ME, because:

    * you cannot draw over other applications UI in Java ME (Symbian C++ is a better choice for such a task)
    * you have usually no access to phone functionalities like SMS inbox, phone charging state, etc.. (about SMS, you can uniquely listen to SMS sent to a specific port)

If I have misunderstood some points please tell me

    thanks for your time jappit,

s this time you got it right but not that sms or charging concept, i just took an example that as the pop up comes when u put for charging, exactly same way i need to disply my own alerts. i even cant go fro symbian as i am targetting my application at basic phones, so its ok if i cant popup that kind of alert with my midlet, then i need to go for full screen alert itself is it...?
ok thank you once again jappit.
    chetan.
