Identify display[screen] size of mobile phones uisng Flashlite 2+

    Hi,

Is there a way to identify the screen size in Flashlite 2 using script[AS2]

    scenario:
i have a text field on the stage [240x320 px] but if i wants to view the same file in 352x416 px or 176x208 then....

    1) will the text field expand to fit accordingly?
    2) am i required to have seperate files for these resolutions?
    3) is there any way to find the screen size and using fscommand2?
    4) or if you have any tips or suggestion also helps

    kindly guide this newbie, thanks

    Hi,

    To answer your questions -

    1. If a FL content is developed for a 240x320 screen size, it will scale down for a 176x208 screen and scale up for a 352x416 screen. This is because FL is vector based, so it is possible for content to scale.
Having said this, the 3 screen sizes are not proportionate, this means although the FL content will scale, it will not be proportionate, and you might be able to see the off stage symbols. Moreover, if you have raster images and text on stage, these tend to get distorted and blurred on scaling.

    2. It is advisable that you port your content to different sizes for distribution.

    3. You can use Stage.width and Stage.height for finding out the stage dimensions. This will work only in FL2+. I don't think is a fscommand2 for finding a mobile screen size.

If you have different screen sizes, you will have to port into separate files. If you want to maintain one file, then you will have to allow it to scale.

Another option is keep you stage to the smallest screen (say 176x208), and set scaling to off. On bigger screens, the content will then maintain the Flash stage size (i.e 176x208). But in this case, you will have to make sure that the surrounding stage area is masked. This however is not a suggested option.

You can refer to these links which talks about scaling content according to different screen orientation. Although they are not related to your question, it may help you.

Please also note that scaling by the player induces a performance penalty!

I would rather advice you to use fscommand2("Full screen","true"). Design your application on a stage of small size and let Flash do the needy.
