simple UI examples without the use of UI Designer

OK.. I tried to buy the UI designer (the developer version). The problem is that I am not a company and just want to write code for myself. When I click on Purchase -> Developer, I am asked to fill out this form which want the name of my company, website etc., which I don't have of course.

So my question, where can I learn about UI components with simple examples without having access to UI Designer?

You can go for Forum.nokia getting started page and search for "Understand the S60 application framework and user interface", but before that if you read the remaining portions as well it will help you in long run.

OK Many thanks.. I will do some reading next.. I learn the best when I have a working example in front of me though. For example some simple code to generate a view and a few menu items to it etc.

you can always go through the SDK exmaples. also you may try reading the Book "Developing Series 60 Applications" but if you are a beginner then i will suggest reading http://developer.symbian.com/main/do...0tut/index.jsp before

To purchase a UI Designer, check this link: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...d.php?t=138360

And to learn S60 UI, i would suggest you to go through this link where it covers mostly all the modules of S60 UI with basics: The eLearning Curriculum

You are also having one good option to learn from examples and i.e: Forum Nokia Wiki

C++ Developer's Library is also a good source of information. Read it out.

If you find any problem in understanding any concept then you can of course ask such questions on these discussion boards.

Make sure to read/search through existing tutorial and examples before asking a question which will eventually help you in understanding concept rather than spoon feeding.

    Hope it helps.

    All the best,
    Kiran.

And FN has many Symbian C++ resources / documents about UI: www.forum.nokia.com, Documentation / Symbian C++ on the left, UI.
Also note that some of those resources are already part of recent SDK-s, if you check S60Doc, there you can find a bunch of s60_platform_avkon_ui_resources_*.pdf, describing various UI stuff (there are some other interesting .pdf-s as well).
