Handset memory and SMS /call registers 8310

can anyone tell me if there is any information or white paper relating to how handset memory (in particular the 8310) is allocated or managed. In particular I require a technical overview as to what happens when text messages are deleted having been stored on the handset (not sim card). This equally applies to the handset call registers

    Many Thanks
