silent communication between native S60 app and java midlet

    Hi,

I'm currently investigating how a java midlet could potentially communicate with a local process on S60. I'm able to let the Midlet communicate with native application via localhost TCP communication, but this always triggers a security dialog from the JVM asking the user for acceptance of the midlet network access. I want to avoid this dialog and I'm looking for a way around it.

I know the user can avoid the dialog by changing the security settings, but i'm basically looking for a solution which allows the midlet to communicate outside with a native application outside the JVM silently (with default settings), e.g. native app writes into the RMS of the midlet applications, or the native app sets system properties dynamically or similar things (just some thoughts i have)

Anybody any luck/solution with implementing the request behavior on S60?

    thx a bunch,

    dirk

Re: silent communication between native S60 app and java midlet

I am not sure if the native apps will have access to the RMS file of the MIDlet. My guess is that this is not possible...

If you use files, you will get confirmations for reading the files (on the MIDlet side), so this will not work either.

I cannot come up with any other mechanism to make this happen, so you might be out of luck. But of course someone could prove me wrong...

    Hartti, thx for your reply!

Anybody else any luck with accessing the RMS of a midlet from a native app? probably an issue with the capabilities, but still it would be good to know if this is possible...

Your problem seems quite different from current discussion. Please start separate thread to get some helpful. Well u have to parse that XML file and save the attributes of XML in different containers. Lots of parsers are available on net. Just search on net and go through the XMl parsers and parsing..Its not a quite tough job u have to just search on net.
    thanks,

    KEEP TRYING..

Re: silent communication between native S60 app and java midlet

Did anybody have an idea yet how one could realize a communication like this? This shouldn't be unusual since MIDlets have far fewer possibilities than native apps. Extending their functionalities with a native app seems natural.

    What about STDIN/STDOUT?

EDIT: I just found something. Take a look at this:

The best available technique is described here.

However, this is a somewhat clumsy process, and is in no way seemless.
