Any way to read the rms.db file on a PC?

I'm using NeuStar's Yahoo Messenger mobile client now, and the rms.db file's gone up to 32MB. I moved it over to my computer (there's a new rms.db file on my N70 now), and was wondering if I could view it on my computer.

I'm pretty sure it holds the message logs from my use of the app.

I'm sorry, I'm a total beginner at these sorts of things; any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try to open it with Notepad or wordpad and see if the contents are at all legible. (No, I have not checked the contents of those kinds of myself, so I cannot say for sure if this works...)

I did try that, though the file is 32MB; it has a lot of data in it. Sometimes whole conversations are repeated over and over. There are also plenty of those square characters that appear when the characters are unknown. Isn't there a program that can read this normally? Thanks.

You might want to ask Yahoo about this...

Your rms.db file holds a lot of binary data which is not human-readable, that's why you see the many squares when opening it on Notepad.

You would have to write a small utility to parse the binary format and return only the strings, since the file format is not plain text. Alternatively, you can try opening in on an Hex Editor (like this one: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...GVj7s3ibsGvdIg) and see the contents more clearly.

I... don't know how to do that. I used the hex editor you linked me to, and there are still a lot of squares when I used it to open the file. However, it does read it faster than Wordpad.

Would it be okay for me to upload a copy of my rms.db file, so you can see what I'm talking about?

    Thanks a lot!
