    USSD - java midlet problem

    Dear,

I would kindly ask you to answer on my question.

We are making software for mobile phone (java midlet).
After testing phase of software on several mobile phone from different vendors we encountered problem which appear only at yours mobile.
One of feature is sending of USSD string from java midlet.(e.g. *123*12345678901234#)
And here we found problem on all yours mobile (N95, N81, 6630, 6280....).
Simplicity USSD call doesn't work on your mobile while working on all others mobile phone available on market (SonyEricsson, LG, Motorola, Samsung ).

So could you be so kind to answer me is it possible to send USSD string from java midlet (if yes can you explain how to do this).

Please can you answer soon as possible because we have to answer to our customer.

    thanks in advance,

    Damir Markovic

Re: USSD - java midlet problem

    Hi croozeus,
on which way we can get confirmation message from Nokia that is not supported from their phones.
I know that is just a forum and it's very nice that we helped each other with questions/answers, but does exist some chance to get official answer according some of those questions direct from Nokia contact centre? If yes, how can we do that?

    Thanks in advance

    Stay good,

Re: USSD - java midlet problem

    Thank you guys both,
I belive you each word what you said, but we need to provide our customer official answer that sending of USSD string trough midlet of Nokia phones is not supported. (Forum is not so effective as direct answer from Nokia CC or....)
Official answer we need to send to customer till end of this week, so that they can sign some king of acceptance test with us.
That is a main reason, why Damir and me asking you for help.

Does exist some workaround solution, like AT commands or something like that, otherwise, we need to send official mail to Nokia and get answer from them that is not support currently from all Nokia mobiles.

Thank you still one more and I hope that you will help us

    Stay good my friends,
    Br

P.S. Unbeliveble is that SE and LG support USSD message sending, and customer blame us like something is wrong written in code......

    @hartti:
Please is it possible that we as a company officially send question like this one below ( from Mr.Markovic) to you or some Nokia email address and get answer like you wrote, that is not supported but with signature below answer should/must be from Nokia Support centre or something like that?

    Thanks once again

Re: USSD - java midlet problem

You can send me a message through my screen name.

Note that MIDP spec does not require USSD to be supported. USSD in general is supported on Nokia devices, just that the platformRequest in MIDP does not support it.

Re: USSD - java midlet problem

    Hi Harrti,
thanks a lot, but I don't undestand "send me a message through my screen name", what does it mean trough screen name?

Sorry maybe I am ......, does it means name.familyname@nokia.com or something like that?
Only important is that we get an answer from "official" Nokias developer or any else who is working in Nokia

Screen name, you mean private message (PM)?
    Thanks

Re: USSD - java midlet problem

    Last from my side really!
Shortly I would like to describe you our problem.
We developed midlet for activation of prepaid bon. That means users can get 14 digits prepaid activation code in Java ME.

From another side, one of Telecom operator support activation od this code through DTMF ( voice announcements), USSD ( *111*14digit#) and NOT via SMS.
From midlet, if we are talking for Nokia phones, we can send only SMS, but network operator can't activate it, because this interface is not supported.
So only solution is through USSD for SE, but it's not working for Nokia. As you can see, we are in circle, can enable this activation for SE and LG but it is not user frendly that some users can activate and some not.
    Now question:
Do you maybe know some workaround solution ( for Nokia)or any possible way to activate USSD string from midlet. I already said maybe AT commands, or any suggestion will be welcome.

    Thanks

Hi dirktierra and welcome to Nokia's Discussion Boards,

I don't see how you can use USSD as communication channel between two Java ME applications on Nokia devices.

Would you consider communication on application level by using one of the following alternative ways?

    1) via Bluetooth
    2) via data packet connection
    3) via SMS'es
