    Update Using WAP PUSH

    Hi,

I am developing an application in s60 3rd edition. The application on installation will create a DB and inserts the hard coded values.
And works fine as per requirement.

Now the application should insert a dynamic values in DB.
So my plan is, after installation a SMS is send to a particular service, which in turn sends a WAP Push message back.

So when ever a WAP push sms is received from that particular center, with out any notification to user, the app. should be opened and the DB should be updated.

    Queries:
    1. What is WAP Push and its uses? is it possible to use for above requirement?
    2. Is it possible to send huge data via WAP Push SMS?
    3. Is it possible to receive WAP Push SMS and update the DB by opening particular application?

Pls correct me if iam wrong.

Any other approach for achieving the above stuffs?

    Thanks,
    Srivatsan

    Re: Update Using WAP PUSH

    Hello,

I hope you take some action depending on the "contents" of the WAP push message. But I don't understand the stress being put on the its usage. Why a WAP Push when a simple SMS can suffice? I hope servers can send SMSes as well. In fact, you could look at Receiving SMS via sockets (a server can send SMS via a particular SOCKET) for the application to receive it without a notification to the user (no phone vibration, no message ringtone, no notification at all). I hope I have partially answered your question.

    Re: Update Using WAP PUSH

    Hello,

You can create an ecom plug-in to receive WAP push messages. The ecom interface UID should be KUidPushContentHandlerBase ( see ccontenthandlerbase.h). And the implementation UID should be your own push application id. See reserverd ids in http://www.wapforum.org/wina/push-app-id.htm .

I suggest that you will send only an URI to the client via WAP push message (when update is available) and then the client can download the actual update via TCP/IP.

wap push basically is a special sms containing a URL.it can not contain huge data.you can write your own MTM plug-in to handle WAP push.
