[moved] Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

    I can't run the S60 5th edition Emulator.
If started manually (epoc.exe or from the START menu) it breaks asking to send a report.

If started under Carbide.c++ debugger, one of the threads is suspended with an error:

    Code:
Thread Suspended: Signal 'Exception 5' received. Description: Access Violation.
    	1 tagma.dll 0x6c6c7566
I've reinstalled the SDK and the IDE several times.

Before that, I encountered the problem of installing to the FAT32 drive (as reported here). So I had to change the drive to the D:\ (NTFS).
Is it possible that the 5th SDK is hard connected to the C:\ drive?

I have the report file that is generated by Windows if needed.

    Best regards,
    Konstantine

Thanks Konstantine, I've forwarded this to the SDK team.
Do you have a JustInTime debugger enabled on your system?

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

    Hi Lucian,

Yes, I've enabled it with the 'prefs.exe' binary from here:
    S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v0.9\bin\prefs.exe

By the way, the S60-5th-alfa-edition worked good on my WinXP machine (however on C:\ drive)

    Thanks for the help

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

i have similar issue. I installed S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0. I was following the installation verification steps and ran epoc command from the command prompt and it did not respond for a long time and then finally game an error that it could not start. I tried running Emulator manually from the Start menu but that did not help either.

I don't know where to look for log file and don't have a clue to fix this. I hope someone can help me asap. I got this new nokia 5800 and want to develop some apps for it. So guys please help me get started with the SDK.

    Thanks in advance....

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

Error message is a standard windows error message: "epoc.exe has encountered a problem and needs to be close."

OK I checked the epocwind.out file and it has lot of information but I am not sure how to interprete that. Though i have copied some text from it which i think might point to the issue. Is there any way i can attach the log file to the thread for complete review?

I hope the log information below is helpful in determining the problem.

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

I have the same problem, epoc crashes on Windows XP SP2. I have installed SDK in D drive.

I have tried disabling drivers, and disabling DEP.

    Any solution isn't found yet?

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

    Hi all
My emulator starts, but disappears after few seconds without any errors/warnings. In menu I have only "switch configuration" and "exit" active. I tried to install different versions of S60 SDK (3 FP2, 3 FP1)but it always goes the same way. I have Perl, J2SE, Carbide installed. Any help??:(

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

Looks like the emulator has to be installed to the default path.
When installed into any other directory, it fails to start.
Also the DEP (data execution preventer) should be disabled for the epoc application.

    Thanks,
    Vax.

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

    Hi,
Even I have the similar configurations as below.
    My system configuration is:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5270, 2Gb Ram,
OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
    My evnironment:
    Windows XP sp3
    JDK 1.5
    JRE 6
    Perl: Activeperl 5.10.0.1
And the SDK is perfectly working fine. It is suggested to install the SDK to the default location. Even if you install it to the Non-default path also it works. And installation issue with the FAT32 drives is addressed in Nokia N97 SDK. It is working fine.

Re: Cannot run the S60 5th ed Emulator (tagma.dll assertion)

Being a FL developer, and having ambitions in Qt devlepment, I downloaded S60 5th edition SDK.
The install was successful, when I start the emulator, it takes quite some time and gives me the status as... SDK is loading.. I see the emulator screen for a 1 -2 secs and then it closes without any errors or notification.
    Any suggestion or hints ?

Usually installing on default locations helps, just make sure that you have not changed any default paths.
