    Application Porting Questions

    Hi

Do I need to create a different version of my project for S60 3rd edition FP1 and FP2? one for FP1 and another for FP2?

    Re: Application Porting Questions

    Hi,
FP1 and FP2 are quite similar , may be some classes might be deprecated in 3.2 but u can always put such code under build MACRO flags. I would say no need to have different versions. The 3.1 and 3.2 can be maintained by simple ifdef flags also.

    Re: Application Porting Questions

    Hi,

project files have same structure - there is no need to have separate project. Some API could change or can not be included in pre 2nd FP2, but changes on 2nd edtition level were not so dramatical.

The question is if it has a sence to support also those prehistoric devices...

Anyway build done on Symbian 7.0s (2nd FP1/Intial release) should work almost in every case on Symbian 8.0a (2nd FP2) - if there will not be any API break of course.

There are not much of change if you are not using some Plug-In APIs. your application will work as fine with out any change. Just have to compile on FP2.
Again there are some changes you may have to do if you are using specific APIs then again those issue might have been documented in readme and known Issues of the FP2 SDK.

    Re: Application Porting Questions

People are making this a bit too complicated.

For MOST applications, if you use the S60 3rd Edition MR SDK then the same binary should work on ALL 3rd Editon and later phones.

There are exceptions and these are usually documented. You only really need to worry about this if your application doesn't work on FP1 or FP2 for some reason.
