    2 Unique IDs ???? How?

    Hi,

    I'm new in Symbian programming.

When I create a project in Carbide.C++ an MMP file is created.

Why an application has 2 UIDs in this file, than just one?

    UID 0x100039CE 0x2001E916

    Hi.

The first UID is indicating whether it is for GUI application or Polymorphic plug in DLL.
If your target is .exe then you need not worry about the first UID.
For GUI Applications -0x100039CE is always the same.
second UID is the unique UID for your application. That is most important.
During the developin and tsting phase you can use th eUID in the unprotected range. But for the signing the application you should use the UID in the protected range where you can get this by signing in the symbian signed account (www.symbiansigned.com)
    Hope this helps!!!
Even i am new to this.I am sharing what i knew. Correct me if iam wrong.

First, really thank you for answering. Really helped me.

Your words gave me two more doubts:

    1) Isn't it hard to change the UID, from the development phase to the release one? How do we do it?
(there are lots of files called like MyApp_0x39849393.xxx)

    2) I use symbiansigned's open signing process everytime I want to run the tests on the phone. Is it the only way to do this?

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards.

Open your Carbide.c++ and press Ctrl+h. Replace all the occurrences of 39849393 with your new UID value. Make sure that you are searching without including "0x" in the search criteria. It is not hard. You just need to wait for 1-2 seconds. ;-)

You can purchase TC TrusctCenter Publisher ID and use Open Singed Offline form. You can create developer certificate request from your PC and you need to submit that certificate request through OpenSigned Offline from withinn your account under www.symbiansigned.com Eventually you will receive developer certificate and you can sign your application right from your local PC. Validity of developer certificate will last for 3 years. So you just need to get one Developer Certificate and sign as many application you want with that Developer certificate.
