    Nokia 5800 missing certificat

Isn't the Open Signed root certificate missing on Nokia 5800 (S60 5th) ?

I am trying to install Open Signed application on my 5800.

The device refuses the certificate due to date/time reason.

If the phone date/time is correct or set in the future (2008/11/29) or set in the far future (2012/10/28), we get “certificate expired” error at the installation.

If the phone date/time is set before 2008/10/28, we get “Certificate may be not valid, is expired or phone’s date settings may be incorrect”.

If the certificate does not contain the device IMEI, the result is the same.

BUT if I try to install a previously Symbian Certified Signed version it installs and works fine.

Thanks but the certificate is clearly not expired because the application installs flawless on other devices (tested on S60 3rd FP1 and FP2 devices).

    We get “certificate expired” error.

If the phone date/time is set before certificate start date, we get “Certificate may be not valid, is expired or phone’s date settings may be incorrect”.

If the certificate does not contain the device IMEI, the result is the same (“certificate expired” error).

    First try:
If I am not wrong then you are giving wrong IMEI number during signing.Because I face same problem due to wrong IMEI number.

    second try:
set tomorrow date/time of your device and then install your application.

When facing problems with phones which are not commercially available it would be advisable to contact Nokia directly and not to discuss the topics on a public forum.

    Re: Nokia 5800 missing certificat

    Hi Itomuta

Unfortunately this happened again today as I updated an 5800 from V10.0.008 to V11.0.008. After the update I had to hard reset the phone with *#7370# to be able to install anything. And the phone is now commercially available, so it would be nice if Nokia would provide us developers with the necessary information!

    Best regards Sam

    Re: Nokia 5800 missing certificat

I've just performed a test and I can reproduce the problem but in odrer to do so I've intentionaly booted the phone without a SIM and set wrong location and time values. Was this somethign that you have done too after update?

I will make sure to push this through and get it clarified.

    Re: Nokia 5800 missing certificat

    Facing the same issue ...
Same app woks on other S60 phones but not on the new 5800.
    (Software V 11.0.008.red.01)

Is it possible that this issue comes with the Verisign certificates only?

    best regards

    Re: Nokia 5800 missing certificat

No, it is a bug in phone's software and it hasn't been fixed yet.

The only known workaround involves the following steps:

    • backup any important data you might have (e.g. send you contacts to http://www.ovi.com)
    • make sure to have a valid SIM cart in the phone and good network coverage
    • restore phone's factory settings ( dial *#7370# )
    • when the phone reboots you will be prompted for location, date and time - insert correct values!

Once the problem fixed (you can verify with any known to be valid sis file) you can restore your backup and use the phone without any limitations.

This is a site for software developers and the advice above is addressed to such professionals that know what impact these operations will have on their phones. If you are an end-user worried about your data (like DRM keys for protected media content, messages and settings and so on ...) or about your product's warranty then you should contact Nokia Care and ask for assistance. See http://www.nokia.com/support.
