    How to create LBS Application

    Am a newbie to mobile world . I know nothing about mobile development

    So here is what i want:

    I need to develop a client application which will communicate with my server.The application will take few inputs from user say name,age etc. Now when he submits the information i need to send latitude and longitude of his current location to my server.

    My question is

    1) How to develop the generic application ?
    2) How to send get and send lat/long automatically to my server ?

    Hi Synfist

    Welcome to Forum Nokia Discussion Boards.
    First you need to look at the requirements of your project and decide what environment you are going to use, e.g. J2ME, Symbian, OpenC, Python, Flash, WRT etc. This will be done taking into account your target devices, a requirement analysis of the project brief and obviously your own development skills.

    Once you have done that there are plenty of sources on Forum Nokia on each to help you get started.
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/reso...tting_started/

    If you are familiar with Java development I would recommend J2ME, it will work well for both; if you are running the application for a research project in a controlled environment or creating it for main stream use.

    Make your choice and then get back with more questions so the answers can be more focused.

    Goodluck

    BTW, remember to Check 5.0 platform service APIs, there is location API as well as Landmarks. These could be used with WRT Widgets as well as Flash.

    For more information check Web development documentation, as well as Wiki has some stuff propably already..

    I would recommend having a read of getting started resources on Forum Nokia and if you are starting with J2ME then I strongly recommend having a look at the Forum Nokia Mobile Java Developers Library.
    It is a comprehensive resource not only on Mobile Java Development but also provides you with all the information that you need to know regarding Java Implementations on Nokia phones.

    In order to put your first application on the phone read this section of the library.

    To design your UI to collect user data

    To Add location

    You will how to guides, examples and implentation notes on various JavaME topics.

    Re: How to create LBS Application

    Thanks Morash

    Those links were very useful . I was looking for looking for same.

    Now something more related to the project.

    Now i need My application to detect the location(lat/long, or co-ordinates or .. ) automatically . Since i myself don't have GPS supported cell phone i am planning to do it Based on Cell-Tower .

    I can get lat\long using

    public void checkLocation() throws Exception
    {
    String string;
    Location l;
    LocationProvider lp;
    Coordinates c;

    Criteria cr= new Criteria();
    cr.setHorizontalAccuracy(500);

    lp= LocationProvider.getInstance(cr);
    l = lp.getLocation(60);

    c = l.getQualifiedCoordinates();
    if(c != null ) {
    // Use coordinate information
    double lat = c.getLatitude();
    double lon = c.getLongitude();
    string = "\nLatitude : " + lat + "\nLongitude : " + lon;
    } else {
    string ="Location API failed";
    }
    midlet.displayString(string);
    }
    }

    Now the only unknown here is How it decide which method to use to detect location

    if i want it using cell ID , MTE_CELLID should work !

    Thanks Folks
