    UNI-09 testcase

    Hi,

    This is UNI-09 testcase

STEP7: After installation to the removable memory card, take another compliant clean phone or format the phone you have, and insert the memory card into the new/formatted phone. RESULT: The application should install automatically to the new/formatted phone or if the application is copy protected it provides suitablemessage to user indicating why it will not install.

How to provide copy protected message? Any changes to .pkg to be done?

    Cheer.

Symbian Signing itself provides some kind of protection against "ordinary" users. Otherwise nowadays the "online activation"-way seems to be the most popular one.

Any way to stop auto installation from memory card? (so that the application will not install on the other phone when same memory card inserted).

You should in fact ensure that the application installs back on the phone and then, when the application is being run decide whether you should be switching back to a trial mode or something like that.

There should be no reason to stop the re-installation.

Once installed on memory card on 95 and when user trys to insert the memory card on any another device it should not install either manually or automatically.

    Re: UNI-09 testcase

Why not? If your licensing model is linked to device's IMEI the application can still work in a trial mode until the a new license is aquired or the previous one is transferred to the new device. Or if no trial mode is available then you display a nice message, as instructed by the test case, and let the user know that due to licence management issues the application cannot be run on that device. A good chance for you to advertise your latest offers by providing a link to your web site on the same screen.

You can make it not to install but not in a nice way and that's what this test case aims to prevent, ugly "Unable to install" error messages.

Ty, but our application is not linked with any IMEI number of the phone. Only thing is how to write a code to copy protect.

I thought that we're discussing about how to pass the Symbian Signed testing, not about how to copy protect the application. There are plenty of discussion on this other topic on these boards, just have a look.

oop's, yes we are discussing about how to pass the signing process. At the same time i have to think in terms of my client requriments.
The other thing is my client need an exemption from this test case.

    Re: UNI-09 testcase

The usual reason for failing this test (thus to failing to re-install) is that the application modifies a file referenced in the .pkg file. As the hash of the file will no longer correspond to what it stored in the stub sis file the re-install will fail and the user will be presented with an error message saying that not all applications from the memory card could be installed.

You can use this in your favor but it would also mean failing the Symbian Signed testing unless you secure a waiver before submission.

Ty, actally the test is been failed at test house. Wired up with this test case. When we tested many times it worked fine with out any problems. Installed on memory card removed and inserted on to new phone( formated) it installed properly and worked as per the functionality. Surprised when it failed in test house. Client would like to get an excemption from this test case.

    Re: UNI-09 testcase

Now I am again confused, if the application was tested suvvessfuly (with the re-install feature) but now it fails the test wouldn't it be logical that whatever problem the test highlights you fix it, so that the application works as before?

Anyhow, if a waiver is what you need, apply for a waiver. Hopefuly you will get it.

    Re: UNI-09 testcase

Yeah, This is the report they send.
The application automatically installs to the formatted phone from the memory card but fails to function properly.
    Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install the application onto the memory card.
2.Enter correct username and password to start the application.
3.Notice that the application functions accordingly.
4.Now remove the memory card from the device and format the device.
5.Insert the memory card again to the device and observe that the application installs automatically to the device.
6.Start the application and notice that none of the application features work properly, the application closes by itself on selecting any of the feature.

We tested for nearly 40 to 50 times only once it failed. Specially focussed on 6 the point more still it worked properly for us. What kind of phones do they test normally?
