Post Why "File format not supported" for ".html" via OBEX?

I've got a problem on S40 5th Ed. devices (tested on 6300 and 5300) - I can't view a ".htm" or ".html" file that was pushed via OBEX to the device.

    Scenario:

    1. I push a file (abc.html) via OBEX to the device (S40)
    2. The devices asks me if I want to view the received file
    3. A list of received files is displayed (also abc.html)
    4. I select "abc.html" and get the error "File format not supported"

Using ".htm" instead, etc. does not change the error. The HTML used is the simplest form, only a title, body text and a hyperlink are included in the document.

Can someone give me a clue, why the S40 devices does not invoke/start the browser to view the file? Note: The same scenario works on Symbian S60, Motorola, Samsung and Win Mobile phones without problems.

Maybe the S40 operating system or messaging application simply doesn't have the required understanding on which application to launch based on the file extension or MIME type.

Or, it is a browser policy not to open local files.

Either reason would explain the "why".

The reason could also be that nobody thought it'd be an important enough use case to implement, and other features have been priorotized higher.

Anyway, it is not quite understandable that the S40 series cant view a ".html" file while having a HTML browser "on board". In addition the same functionality is supported on S60 Nokias, the ordinary Sony Platform 7/8/9, Samsung and Motorola phones.

That this functionality is not available breaks a bucket full of use-cases, like that of a Bluetooth-booth that sends out a file/message with instructions and an additional Internet-URL to click on. I currently know of no other way to implement this kind of functionality, except than sending a ".html" file via OBEX-Push to the phone.

If there is another way of sending a message to be displayed on a S40 device via Bluetooth with a navigable hyperlink, I would be glad for any hints.
