    WAP push questions

    Posted by Brendan Ryan, brendan.tyan@tecnomen.ie

I have a few questions about WAP push, if
    someone has time to answer.

    1. Can confirmed push be implemented using SMS bearer ?
    2. For SMS bearer, does segmentation and re-assembly need to be done in WDP layer or can this be left to the SMSC ?
    3. How should Push Initiator authentication be handled (HTTP basic authentication maybe) ?
    4. Does a CC/PP server need to be implemented for client capabilities queries?

I am not sure if Push is SMS dependent or not (America is still trying to get to be common here). But Alert/Push notifications are part of the WAP specification. Some good documentation of this is on the Phone.com site in their SDK developer tools section. One thing you need to look at is what type of phone system you are using -- there are some differences in technology.
