    CommsDb deprecated. Replaced by what?

    Hi,

It seems from both comments and header files that the CommsDb has been deprecated.

Is there a public replacement for it?

I can still see that the examples for defining and handling access points are using it, so is there really a replacement?

    Thanks,
    Nadav

CommsDat. And yes, many CommsDB API-s are still supported, but they are wrapping CommsDat-calls in the background.

Is there some good documentation and/or examples about it? I haven't found any.

Also - I've seen it included in 3.2 SDK API Plugin and not in 3.1 SDK plugin, so I suppose it is not supported on 3.1, is that correct?

    Thanks,

That is only the WLAN-stuff for CommsDat. Depending on what you need exactly, you can live with the CommsDat headers which are already present in the SDK-s. And depending what the 3.2 plugin pack contain, some parts (especially identifiers, constants) may work on earlier devices too.

Re: CommsDb deprecated. Replaced by what?

Problem with old and new APIs, is that the functions are quite general (GetIntAttribute, for example). User of the APIs is required to get and set values from tables, without understanding the actual structure of the tables, the columns and the relation between different tables.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask for it, but isn't it about time that Symbian release a little bit more details, so that programmers can more easily understand what they're doing?

Specifically in my case, I'm looking for a way to make the system see my pseudo AddHoc network as if it has a strong signal, so that programs that filter access points according to signal would not drop it.

    Thanks,
    Nadav
