    Question webservices and data storage problem

    Hello,

    I am using Flash Lite 2.1, I need to know if there is any other method for using webservices rather than flash webservice component, because If I use it on my cell phone,its execution time exceeds and flashlite gives error .
    Also I need to know about using database in cellular phone?? Is there any database available to install in nokia phones locally, because I dont want to use any database on server, and how will it be used with flashlite.

    Thanks in Advace,

    Regards,
    Waheeda

    Please elaborate your first question and do tell ur phone model becuase S40 nokia phones and S60 nokia phones have different solutions.Second question, If you want to create database locally then i think using pure Flash Lite 2.1 environment , u can store data upto some extent 4kb using shared objects .(For S60 & S40) Check out :
    Shared Objects
    You can also use C++ or python extensions to do your task easily. For small databases use Write2file .Its small in size + very easy to use: (Only S60)
    Write2file
    It is also possible via FLyer frameworks , for big database managements: (Only S60)

    Hope It helps You to some extent...Enjoy Flash Programming..

    There is method called getURL() or loadURL() which might be handy to you.

    Re: webservices and data storage problem

    If your webservice is based on XML, you can use the XML Object to send and retrieve data from the webservice. Using sendAndLoad method I have developed a complete Flash Lite application that retrieves all the data from a SOAP webservice in a remote server.

    The basics of this approach is the following (This example could be a webservice for a login system)

    var user:String = 'username';
    var pass:String = 'password';

    var receptor:XML = new XML();
    var emisor:XML = new XML();
    receptor.ignoreWhite = true;

    var msg:String = '<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:cas="http://yourserver.com/XXXX"><soapenv:Header/><soapenv:Body><cas:login><cas:username>'+user+'</cas:username><cas: password>'+pass+'</cas: password></cas:login></soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope>';

    receptor.onLoad = Delegate.create(this, onLoadInfo);
    emisor.parseXML(msg);
    emisor.addRequestHeader ("Cookie", JSESSIONID);
    emisor.sendAndLoad(url, receptor, "POST");

    In this example I'm sending the SESSIONID to Java via Headers and delegating the answer from the webservice to the onLoadInfo method (Asumming this code is inside of a class method).

    The msg string is the XML string that the webservice method needs to run properly, so in each method must be different, in this example I have modified the urls and names, but you can use your own. I recommend you a software to see how the webservice works and do some testing: soapui (http://www.soapui.org/)

    I hope you understand the main functionality of this example.

    Regards,
    Marcos

    Reg Datastorage, There is a mechanism to create a FILE and store info to it.. For eg, the TOP SCORES for a game or somethign similar to that. It is called a SHARED OBJECT and you can refer manual for that.
    - You cant call it a database but its just a text file. You need to place information in a orderly fashion inside that file.

    HI there..
    When I meant Manual .. I meant the in-built help provided in Flash.. Just search for sharedlocalobject or localsharedogject and learn how to use it.. you can do the reqd once u read through that..

    Thanks

    Its not an issue or any kind of privilege being a regular or super contributor.. What you should aim at is FORUM NOKIA CHAMPION. You can become one by writing articles on WIKI and helping out ppl in this Forum.. To become a regular contributor > posts is the criteria , i guess..
