Application Closed: Home Screen ViewSrv 11

    Hi,

anyone know why Application Closed: Home Screen ViewSrv 11 is shown when the phone is turned on?
My application has autostart feature, but I don't see anything that can block because there are only AOs in ConstructL.

    thanks,

Re: Application Closed: Home Screen ViewSrv 11

    Hi,

ViewSrv 11 is one of the most famous panics on the Symbian. It is caused by the View server, when detecting that your application is not responding to it. Read very nice description of the problem here:
    http://developer.uiq.com/devlib/uiq_.../faq_0900.html

You have said "I don't see anything that can block", but in fact there must be something...

    Hi stenlik,

I know what ViewSrv 11 is. The problem is, it's not my application that is crashed, but 'Home Screen' application (see the thread title). And I don't know what application is that. My application still running fine.

    best regards,

    Hi,

I though that the "Home Screen" is the name of your application So the problem is that if your application is booted the built-in application crashes? And when you disable the boot feature everything is going fine?

Yes, if I uninstall the application, the error is gone.

Can it happen that you also deploy (and remove) the ErrRd file with your application?

Hmm, I do put Errrd file in the pkg.
Do you mean that it's always error like that and the error is shown because I put the Errrd file? If so, is that means I just need to throw away the Errrd file?

    thanks,

Well ErrRd is to be put only for development, however if your application which has auto start feature makes the Home Screen crash, the phone will restart the HomeScreen app...

But I would still prefer a solution to this... one of which I could think of as:

    Start the application...
Before creating any active object or Active scheduler, do this:
    1. Start a RTimer and make your application sleep for about 45 seconds, and then after resume, do your normal activity....

This way I guess it will solve your problem...

Re: Application Closed: Home Screen ViewSrv 11

I was thinking about the other variation: if your application brings/removes ErrRd with itself, Home Screen may always panic, just you do not see the panic message when the ErrRd file is removed from the device.
Personally I really like my N81 device, but it has a mysterious something -1 panic on boot. Devices are just not perfect, that is the cause. So you may consider removing your application, installing ErrRd separately, and checking if the panic arises on boot. It probably will, indicating that it is independent from your application.

    yes agree to wizard_hu...

i too have noticed such errors after installing panic Installer (just a sis file which places ErrRd into the apt folder.. i have attached a sis you can try with...)...
so do give it a try...

However, I would never ever recommend putting ErrRd along with your application, not atleast in the release
