    Problems after installing

    I All,

    I'm using windows vista got JAVA and perl and installed S60_3rd_FP2_SDK_v1.1.
    When I run in the command line:
    C:\Users\nahum>epoc
    To use Symbian OS tools without specifying a device name, a default
    device must be set using the devices -setdefault command.

    C:\Users\nahum>devices
    No devices are currently installed.

    What to do?

    Re: Problems after installing

    Have you installed with "Run As Administrator"? I would guess no, so the relevant files were probably deployed to a mirrored location instead of the real system folders. Lucian describes what to do somewhere, but I do not really remember, sorry. You can try finding the files and moving them to the system folders manually.

    Re: Problems after installing

    Yes, this might be a detail that I've forgot to add to http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/blog/lu...-success-story. Under ?:\Program Files\Common Files\Symbian there should be a devices.xml file with the proper SDK entry. If the file is not there then you have to look for it in your user folder and move it to the proper location.

    Applications that would have to write in this file (like devices.exe and Carbide.c++) should after that be always run as administrator.

    Re: Problems after installing

    Thanks,

    This is the content of devices.xml where it should be:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <devices version="1.0" />

    Yes, the file exists but there is no device entry in it. Most likely the data was written in Vista's Virtual Storage area, just search for a devices.xml under your user's folder (%USERPROFILE%).

    Re: Problems after installing

    OK, if no devices.xml file is available under ?:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Common Files\Symbian\ then ... well, forget about it and create an entry in the file you already have ?:\Program Files\Common Files\Symbian\devices.xml.

    Code:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <devices version="1.0">
    <device id="S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v0.9" name="com.nokia.s60" default="no" userdeletable="yes">
    <epocroot>C:\S60\devices\S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v0.9\</epocroot>
    <toolsroot>C:\S60\devices\S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v0.9\</toolsroot>
    </device>
    </devices>
    Alternatively you can use Carbide.c++ through its SDK Preferences dialog to add a new entry. Make sure to run it as administrator for it to be able to write to ?:\Program Files\Common Files\Symbian\devices.xml
