Emulator on Vista closes after a couple of seconds.

I have just installed Carbide 2.0 on a new Vista PC. Carbide works and I can compile my application and it works fine on a phone. but I can't get the emulator working. If I try running epoc.exe the emulator crashes, this is the output from epocwind.out:

3.340 OOD WATCHER: Notified on drive C, Free: 0x6AA7C13000
3.340 OOD WATCHER: Entering normal mode on drive C

I have seen from other postings that this problem is caused by the realtek audio drivers on the Vista PC, does anybody know how to fix or workaround this problem.

As you can see, the audio subsystem dies. The easiest fix you can try is disabling your sound card.

Ok I now have the debugger working by disabling the Realtek audio in my PC.

But of course this is not a fix, it's a work around. While the driver is disabled I have no sound on my PC.

The real solution is a fix to MMFAudioServer.exe.

The background to this is I have just got a new quad core PC just for Carbide development because my old PC was to slow to run the debugger. The emulator would crash before the debugger got going. So its frustrating to see the emulator crash on a new super fast PC.

I'm using S60 FP1, does anybody know if this problem occurs on FP2 or other SDKs.

    cheers

Actually you should consider trying; the most recent SDK-s (perhaps including S60 3rd FP2) are using DirectSound.

The problem with that is my target device is N95 so moving to a newer SDK is a bit of a problem.
I'm also developing a camera app and APIs change in FP2 for auto focus.

My latest problem is that the debugger stops on a panic caused by some other part of the emulator and won't let me just continue. I'm sure there is a setting for this, but I can't remember where it is?.

    cheers
