Difference between sound drivers and audio drivers

    Hi Nokia experts,

I am working on multimedia drivers. I want to know the description of
sound and audio drivers. As per my understanding of sound driver, it is
generally for sound cards. But what sound and audio driver is meant in symbian world.
Can somebody give the details of what is diffence between sound driver and audio driver?
Is Audio routing covered in audio driver?

    Regards,
    Dinky

Re: Difference between sound drivers and audio drivers

    Hi,

These are both just names that don't necessarily mean anything in Symbian. The sound/audio (I'd call it an audio driver personally) driver is part of the base port - that's not something that's generally discussed here on Forum Nokia - maybe SDN++, or the Symbian Foundation when that's set up.

Whatever you call it you're talking about the driver for the audio chip or audio block in the SoC/ASIC that Symbian OS is running on. Usually audio policy and routing are implemented as separate components but all of this lives under DevSound in the architecture.

    Hope that helps a bit.
