    N95 JRE issue?

Hmmm - I am trying to build and run a simple Midlet (i.e. the application from: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...me_application) on an N95, after upgrading the firmware to the latest/greatest. I am using the latest/greatest Netbeans, and the Series 40 6th edition SDK.

But I get "application not compatible with this phone", even when self-signing the jad and jar...what does this mean?

    thanks in advance -
    Chris

I also verified that I am building against JDK 1.5, using the MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 profiles in Netbeans...

Can you paste the contents of the JAD and Manifest?

    Re: N95 JRE issue?

There's no MIDlet-1 attribute in your Manifest.

    It should read like:

    Code:
    MIDlet-1: descriptive name, icon-path, MIDlet-class-name
    For example:

    Code:
    MIDlet-1: My first midlet, /appicon.png, com.mysoftware.MyFirstMIDlet
Hmmmmm... why are you using the Series 40 SDK? I have a feeling there is something strange about the S40-6 SDK. N95 is Series 60. (You can develop for S60 using the S40 SDK.)

hmmm - I guess I can add these by hand, but I was just pushing 'deploy' in Netbeans...this stuff worked on Motorola phones...

regarding series 40, I was just trying to go for least common denominator...but let me try that after I service some interrupts at this end...

again, thanks for looking at this...

    Re: N95 JRE issue?

    I never use NetBeans.

I am very surprised if you can run a MIDlet on a Motorola without the MIDlet-1 tag. Without that, there is nothing to tell the phone which class to instantiate. It's a mandatory attribute.

Series 40-6 is not exactly "lowest". I'd recommend picking the APIs that match your notion of "minimum spec" from the wireless toolkit, if you're looking to produce a single, multi-device build.

Also, consider writing your own build process, using Ant and Antenna. Antenna plugs into Ant, and provides a bunch of extra functionality for building for mobile. Having your own build process will mean you have more control and more understanding of what's going on. You'll also be IDE-independent.

    Cheers,
    Graham.

    Wait a minute....
I think N95 is s60 3rd edition FP1 not s40. And it will not accept jar built with s40 SDK(to my understanding). So either get S60 3rd edition FP1 SDK and compile your code again or get another s40 mobile compatible with your SDK. I hope it will run without any problem. And as you told use "MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 profiles in Netbeans" for n95.

    Re: N95 JRE issue?

ok - adding the Midlet-1 attribute fixes things to the point they load...and indeed, it automatically filled out the correct item when I hit the drop-down menu.

now, the actual Midlet (a trivial location test) is timing out... but I'll put that in another thread.

    thanks !
