Smile How to use Google map API on Symbian /S60 platform

    Hi guys,

I am trying to implement a small navigation application which uses Browser control API and google map API to navigate.

I used Google static map API which basically sends a http request to google server with some parameters and google server then returns
the map in the format of picture back to the phone according to the parameters. My problem is that S60 always uses Image Viewer to open the picture so my application can't browse the map at all. I want my application supporting map browsing so when users press left/right keys the map will move accordingly.

Can someone tell me how to implement the browsing feature? Is it correct to use google static map API as mentioned here
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/doc...on/staticmaps/ or should I use some other google API ?

And also how to detect the key press event when using browser control API ? Should I use soft key observer (MBrCtlSoftkeysObserver) or any other observer ?

    Thanks in advance

You should check the Google Maps API license, see if the intended use case is permited.

Aside from that, from a technical point of view it is quite possible to access the APIs, both the static html one and the java script version. There are some examples in the wiki, have a look.

Re: How to use Google map API on Symbian /S60 platform

    Hi All,

It seems there isn't clear instruction on how to use Google map API on Symbian OS. So I started a open source project which basically aims to find out a standard way of using Google map API on Symbian OS and doesn't violate the term of usages of google map API.

The open source project is based on a small application implemented by me. It has basic map browsing and map zooming features.
The details on the open source project is highlighted in the link below and you can find the download link also there.

I am looking forward to working with you on the project and hope we can do something together to benefit our own communities.
