    Opening GPRS channel

    Hi,

After installation, we would like to open a GPRS connection, report to our server that the installation was complete and close it.

Can this be done without asking the permission of the user?

If not, what exactly prevents it? Is it prevented only by SymbianSigned criteria, or is it somehow enforced by the code?

    Thanks,
    Nadav

If I'm right it is symbian signed that prevents it, since you do need to ask for billable events before doing one. There would not be any problems on coding one though, but I would not see any point of not asking from the user..

The only reason not to ask the user is because we would like this report to reliably reflect the number of installations we have.

Since we only want to do it once and send very a small amount of data, the cost to the user is close to nothing.

We will try to issue a waiver for SymbianSigned.

    Thanks a lot,

You could always disable the usage of the pplication if the user does not give permission, then you would know excatly how many users have downloaded and has also activated your applciation.

Well, this is tricky. We would not want to disable the application and loose the user just because of that. Furthermore, in many cases we would be able to later connect via WiFi.

    Thanks again,
