Can Application(GUI) adn Exe(Non-Gui) share same private path?

    Hi,

I am working on one application in which there is GUI part and the watchdog part. Settings are being saved by the GUI application in the private directory and now watchdog exe needs to access the same.

Watchdog is installed using the package file of GUI application. Now is watchdog has the permission to access the GUI private directory? Or is there any approach to achieve the same? Please do let me know asap.

    Regards,

No Application/exe can not excess privatepath of any other application/exe, unless u have Allfiles capability. Alternatively you can place those files in public place.

Since your watchdog is the code which is probably running all the time, you can also consider putting the settings into the private directory of the watchdog executable, and sharing it via IPC (it is a perfect use-case for Publish and Subscribe I think).

if your data is not that sensitive then you might consider using a public folder (like /system/data/<app name>/) to share.

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion but my data is sensitive. Wizard_Hu how can we make use of IPC?

Client-Server is a bit overkill for this in my opinion. The keyword for Public and Subscribe is RProperty. Check it in the Wiki and the SDK Help for example.

Isn't P&S more geared towards things such as transmission of notification events etc., as opposed to posting data? newbie has settings to transfer between UI and exe and, especially if these are large, how is that accomplished via P&S?

We're assuming GUI and watchdog have independent lifetimes, and assuming they actually need to be separate entitites, they might not necessarily be so, I would say the best solution to his problem can't be determined until we have a proper understanding of his architecture (and if that architecture is actually the most appropriate to his requirements). No offense to newbie, but people on here create all sorts of weird ridiculous architectures based upon how they presume things should be done, combined with bad advice and misunderstandings etc.
