Ovi UK Sales Tax (VAT) Issue?

Des anyone truly understand what is required from
    a developer/publisher w.r.t UK sales tax declaration?

Handango take care of all the taxy issues on your behalf
so Ovi sales will be unchartered territory for me.

I customers can purchaser from any country, and it is your
responsibility to work out how much tax to declare from whom,
how on earth do you go about that?

I have a freelance accountant working for me but he
will have to be informed of certains things surely?
The problem is - I don't know the questions I should be asking.

If anyone has any experience please share with me.

    E.g.
    (1)
Person A from the US buys my software for £10
How much VAT must I declare to the Inland Revenue?

    (2)
Person B from Germany buys my software for £10
How much VAT must I declare to the Inland Revenue?

    (3)
Person C from China buys my software for £10
How much VAT must I declare to the Inland Revenue?

How wil I even know what country the purchaser lives in?
Will this info be in some kind of invoice?
I have no idea how to approach this.

    Need help.

    Many thanks,

    Paris.

    Hi,
These are definitely questions for your accountant.

Your company will have to earn £50,000 turnover to get a VAT number.

In other areas discussion has taken place on the amount.

There is an article ovi for individuals t &c

You need to read deeper into these issuses, still you need to have at least 500 euros in your account before you get paid.

No one on this board is qualified to give Tax advice and is probaly off topic because the is not about Ovi. Its been pointed out several times that each country has tax regimes use the uk hmrc vat websiteUK HMRC

Lets hope you do make some money, and enough to pay tax!

Please read the other threads to get more information on Ovi

Re: Ovi UK Sales Tax (VAT) Issue?

    Thanks again Jim!

Yes, sorry for the off topic.
I was trying to figure how I would even know where each customer is buying from
in order to give that info to my accountant.

Presumably it would be in the invoice in some form.

Nonetheless, I will investigate the links you posted.

(p.s. I am VAT registered so will have to declare for sure.)

    cheers!

I'm fairly certain that there'll be some kind of a publisher report that documents what was sold, where and for how much, and how much taxes were paid, where it was paid, and how much's left for you.

    Thanks Jimgilmour1!

Have you uploaded anything to Ovi?
Are your sales going through the roof?

I postponed uploading my app at the last minute because I never did receive
any response about the security issue.

I wonder how others are finding the service/launch?

If anyone has any interesting stories post to my other thread:

(not to this tax related one)

    cheers

Unless the rules have changed recently, you do not have to earn £50,000 to get a VAT number in the UK. If you earn more than £50k, you must register for VAT. If you earn less, you can register for VAT, but it's optional.

    Hello,
Thought I'd reconfirm the previous comment about VAT as i've recently been speaking to the tax office quite a bit :-).

You can register for VAT at any time. They will ask you for a reason if you register voluntarily before you meet the threshold (which is now a turnover of £67,000 over any consecutive 12 months) but as best I can tell there is no reason for them to refuse giving you a number (unless you are not officially self-employed of course).

Re: Ovi UK Sales Tax (VAT) Issue?

When you sell to non EU countries there's no VAT charge (USA China....).
When you sell to eu countries, you have to pay VAT from the money you get (Germany, France, UK....).

I do wonder though, as you are dealing through the OVI store, it could depend on how it operates and where they are. If they're a retail outlet, it's possible that they have to work out which sales do VAT and which don't. You charge them for VAT on each sale, and they claim back VAT they paid you, transparently to you.
