Unhandled exception when trying to open btspp connection

    Hi,

when trying to open a Bluetooth Serial Port Profile connection via Connector.open(<serverURL>), the MIDlet runs into an unhandled exception even though I have a try/catch block around it which catches everything of type Throwable. I'm testing the code on a Nokia 6110 Navigator, firmware version 6.01.

The <serverURL> is obtained by performing the procedures of the Service Discovery Protocol (startInquiry(), searchServices()), which discovers the server properly.

The same code works fine in a J2SE "test frame" with the BlueCove Bluetooth implementation (version 2.0.3).

I suspect that this might be a security issue since the MIDlet is not signed but as long as I can't catch that damn exception this is just guessing...

Any idea how I can catch this exception and (even better) how I can get rid of it?

    Thanks in advance

    JS

Re: Unhandled exception when trying to open btspp connection

Hi Folks (especially the NOKIA experts...),

is there some special reason why I NEVER EVER get replies to my postings?

I do understand that I can't expect professional support for free but I'm growing tired of all these bugs in the NOKIA software and absolutely no support...

    Regards

    Hello schoenke,

sorry to hear that there's been no responses to your issue.

Based on your description, your issue appears to be similar (if not exactly identical on the Exception handling) to this Known Issue in Forum Nokia Wiki: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...ort_in_MIDlets

Could you check if that Known Issue provides any solution?

Re: Unhandled exception when trying to open btspp connection

    H r2j7,

sorry for the late response - I've been on vacation for a week...

I'm aware of KIJ000109; actually I ran into the same problem and implemented a workaround for this. However, the problem I addressed in this thread is diffenrent in multiple ways:
    1) I do not even get to the point where I can read from the stream because the problem mentioned below occurs when trying to open the connectionby Connection.open()
    2) The IOException thrown by read() can be caught by a try/catch block as you would expect which is in contrast to the problem I have with Connection.open()where the try/catch block seems to have no effect.

    Any ideas?

Re: Unhandled exception when trying to open btspp connection

    Hi again,

short update: I just found that the Server URL used in Connector.open() was incorrect (the ":" after "btspp" was missing). The J2SE Blue Cove Bluetooth stack I used to check my implementation seems to be more robust in face of this syntax error...

However... I think there's still an error in the Nokia Bluetooth stack because Connector.open() doesn't throw a propper exception. As described below, the Connector.open() statement is surrounded by a try/catch block that catches everything of type Throwable. Eventhough the code didn't run into that catch block; instead the application stopped with an "unhandled exception" message.

    Regards
