Nokia 5800 XM SIP / VoIP support

    Hi All,

I own a Nokia N81 and am a heavy VoIP user. I love the seamless integration that Nokia has achieved with the N81 using its built in SIP client. Now I placed an order for Nokia 5800 XM and it came to my attention that 5800 XM doesnt have a SIP client! Neutral It does have SIP settings but no SIP client. A lot of people are furious about this.

Is there any way I can install the N81's SIP client on to the 5800? They're both S60 devices and the only difference being one is 3rd edition and the other being a 5th edition.

Are there any good 3rd parties softwares? I already have used Fring, Truphone and Talkonaut. Is there something better?

    Thanks!

currently 5800 has no SIP-client built-in. But you can install other sip-client on it

i believe nokia has better do something like providing new firmware update, im currently using e51, i love the 5800 bt the main reason that stopped me and yet stopping me frm buying it is that theres no sip client, i believe nokia MUST provide an update, and also add video calling over sip using wlan nt only 3g live sharing! By the way i prefer my current e51 over the iphone just because of the great voip integeration!

i also agree that the VoIP in the E51 has been implemented well. I am currently using both the E51 and the 5800. And i am leaning towards just sticking with the E51.

Re: Nokia 5800 XM SIP / VoIP support

Given that the 5800 doesn't have a VoIP client built-in, can anyone recommend a VoIP (SIP) client for it?

I believe that Fring now supports the 5800 with full VoIP SIP but I don't feel that Fring is very serious about the VoIP aspect of their product, e.g. they don't support touch tones so it can't be used to call e.g. support sites.

Truphone was relying on the Nokia VoIP stack, so they don't support VoIP for phones, such as the N97 and the 5800, that no longer have it. They don't seem to have any intention of changing this.

Anything better for those of us that liked the built-in VoIP that we had with our old Nokia phones?

    Hi there,

I'm happy to say I've configured my SIP account under my Nokia 5800XM. Menu > Settings > Connections > Admin. settings > Sip Settings

Or even let us know which 3rd party software you use that uses that SIP configuration you set up. As far as I know, Nimbuzz, Fring, etc. don't use that at all. The built-in SIP configurations are only for video calls as far as I understand it.

Re: Nokia 5800 XM SIP / VoIP support

    Hi,
Is it possible to install on 5800xm Sip client? For example I have a N85 which natively has not installed such client, and I have downloaded it here:

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._Settings.html

On N85 I have configured it and runs correctly. From a contact tab you can choose Call/Internet call. I'ts very useful because you can call directly from contacts list.

Has anyone tried such sip client on 5800xm?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi

SIP and VoIP are not the same, SIP is the Signaling Protocol to establish sessions, for an Internet Call you need SIP and something else like a VoIP Client.
Nokia 5800 has the SIP stack but not the "Nokia VoIP Client Framework".
Please, check the page: "VoIP support in Nokia devices" http://www.forum.nokia.com/Technolog..._devices.xhtml

If your device supports VoIP you can download "SIP VoIP Settings" application to configure VoIP.

    Best regards

Try Skype, Fring or any other similar product.
Or try writing your own VoIP application, after all you are posting your question on a site section reserved for VoIP application developers. If you are not a developer you should post your questions at http://www.nokia.com/discussions

Unfortunately, that very useful VoIP reference page no longer exists.

Does anyone know if Nokia forum site administration will replace it?
