    Post problem in Auto starting application in s60_2nd_fp3

    hi all
    Can any one help me please.
    i need to auto start my application. My application is developed in s60 2nd edition fp3.
    I am testing it on N70. I am using Startup List Management api for auto starting my application.
    Everything is fine except Application does not start automatically..
    i have already done it for 3rd edition phones. But it is not working for 2nd edition ..
    This is what i am doing ..
    1) Created HelloWorld console application from Carbide.c++.
    2) Didn't change UID3 of application. It was: 0xE766B1D5
    3) Built application for WINSCW (S60_2nd_FP3)
    4) Built application for THUMB Release (S60_2nd_FP3)
    5) Opened Wiki article: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...Management_API
    6) Created E766B1D5.rss file under "data" folder of my application.
    7) Opened that file and filled it with:
    Code:
    #include <startupitem.rh>

    RESOURCE STARTUP_ITEM_INFO startexe
        {
        executable_name = "c:\\sys\\bin\\HelloWorld.exe";
        recovery = EStartupItemExPolicyNone;
        }
    8) Opened .mmp file and added following lines:
    Code:
    START RESOURCE ..\DATA\E766B1D5.rss
    END
    9) Opened .pkg file and added following line:
    Code:
    "C:\Symbian\8.1a\S60_2nd_FP3\Epoc32\Data\E766B1D5.rsc"-"c:\private\101f875a\import\[E766B1D5].rsc"
    10) Built my application for WINSCW (S60_2nd_FP3)
    11) Built application for THUMB Release (S60_2nd_FP3)
    12) AT time of making sis i need to make a little modification in my pkg file i.e i have to use this product id (0x101F7960) "Series60ProductID" in my pkg file. If i use system generated product ID the i get following error
    Code:
    C:\Symbian\8.1a\S60_2nd_FP3\Epoc32\tools>makesis c:\HelloWorld.pkg c:\HELLOWorld.sis //command i use to makesis
    Processing c:\HelloWorld.pkg...
    c:\HelloWorld.pkg(11) : error: number out of range
    This is my pkg file.
    Code:
    ;/* Copyright (c) 2008, Kochar Infotech Pvt. Ltd. All rights reserved */
    ; FTP.pkg

    ; Languages
    &EN

    ; Header
    #{"HelloWorld"},(0x0),1,0,0

    ;Supports Series 60 v 2.0
    (0x101F7960), 0, 0, 0, {"Series60ProductID"}

    ;Vendor
    %{"Kochar Infotech Pvt. Ltd.-EN"}

    ;specific vendor
    :"IT-Programmers"

    ; Target
    "c:\HelloWorld.exe"-"!:\sys\bin\HelloWorld.exe"
    "C:\Symbian\8.1a\S60_2nd_FP3\Epoc32\Data\E766B1D5.rsc"-"c:\private\101f875a\import\[E766B1D5].rsc"
    13 By using (0x101F7960) i am able to makesis and i install it on my N70 device.
    14 i am able to view my .rsc file in c:\private\101f875a\import\[e766b1d5].rsc
    15 when i run my application that is lying in c:\sys\bin it run successfully
    16 But when i reboot my device application does not start automatically...

    plz help
    Regards

    you should check the document on how to port 2nd edition apps to 3rd edition, and do all steps in reverce.

    AFAIK the Startup List Management api was introduced in 3rd edition, thus with 2nd you should use workarounds like recognizers etc.

    No I mean that it appears that your original application is for 3rd edition, and to get it working on 2nd edition, you should check the porting points in reverce, so you would get it working in 2nd edition device.

    Re: problem in Auto starting application in s60_2nd_fp3

    Actually i came to know from the posts that
    for application built upto 8.0a we need Recognizers or we can use boot on start API.
    But my application is built in s60_2nd_fp3 so i need to use Startup List Management API.

    That is why i am using it...

    Swapnil sir
    That Thread became really complicated .. Every thing was discussed there .. i was getting confused as some people said Startup api would work on s60_2nd_fp3 and some advised me to use boot on startup api ... But in boot on startup api documentation it is clearly stated that this api works only upto 8.0a..

    And i am using s60_2nd_fp3

    Can you show me the documentation stating above statement??

    Also no need to start multiple thread for same question.

    Anyway, You tried Startup List Management api and its not working (i dont know whether its your fault or is not supported). but still you have following options.

    1)Use Start On Boot API v1.3.

    2)Or use recognizer to implement autostart.

    Code:
    The Service start-on-boot API provides a mechanism for 3rd parties to register services (exes) to be started on device boot.

    The code is compatible with Symbian OS v6.1, v7.0 and v7.0s. The software has been tested using a Nokia 3650 running Symbian OS v6.1, a Lubbock development board running Symbian OS v7.0 and v7.0s, on a Sony-Ericsson P900 mobile phone and on a Nokia 6600 running Symbian OS v7.0s.

    Binaries are supplied for the following versions of Symbian OS:
    Symbian OS version	UI	Tested with phones	Compatible but untested
    6.0	Series 90		9210, 9290
    6.1	Series 60 v1.0	7650,3650	Siemens SX1, N-Gage, 3660, Sendo X
    7.0	UIQ, Techview	P800, P900	Motorola A920, A1000
    7.0s	Series 60 v2.0	6600
    8.0a	Series 60 v2.1	6680

    WINS and WINSCW binaries are supplied to allow you to build your software for this platform. However start-on-boot has not been enabled for WINS or WINSCW Emulator build.

    I could not see any statement saying "this api works only upto 8.0a". Yes doc says "Binaries are supplied for the following versions of Symbian OS: 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.0s,8.0a". But it does not mean that it will not work for 8.1a.

    Just give a try to Start On Boot API. if its not works then recogniser is your last option.
