    Unhappy Variation in jar size??

    Hi,

I have installed j2me2.5.2 as well as j2me3.0 both.

My project has 73 kb of source code files and 323 kb of images.

when I create package in j2me2.5.2, it makes a jar file of 267 kb for same code, while in j2me3.0 it makes jar file of 336 kb.

Why is it so, and which one is better?

    Thanx

    Hi ,
It might be obfuscation problem . Which version of ProGuard is there in 2.5 and 3.0 is it same ?

    Thanx for reply.

But neither J2ME2.5.2 has any obfuscator installed, nor J2ME3.0 provides any obfuscation feature.

Hey if there is no obfuscator attached in any of them how come ur 73kb source + 323 kb image giving u 267 KB. its really confusing... u might be missing on defining some resource path or some thing.

I have just checked again and they both have same resource folders.

I have copied same images and source code files in both of them.

And one more thing - same data produces 349 kb jar file in Netbeans 6.7 beta.

    Hi ,
I taught you have integrated the obfuscator . Ok leave that. Extract the two jar file with winzip or winrar and see what makes that size. Or there might be some software where you can get the difference of two binary files .

    Hi,

    Thanx for reply.

One thing i ve found in netbeans and j2me3.0 both

As i ve created two resource image folders, whenever I run the project, they create two Thumbs.db files whose size is 25+ kb each, or even more.

I don't know how to prevent this??

This is good advice. Most likely thing is: you don't have the same files in both builds.

    Re: Variation in jar size??

    Code:
Extract the two jar file with winzip or winrar and see what makes that size
Winzip is not supposed to extract .jar file
    Code:
you don't have the same files in both builds
i m just fully deleting the previous content and doing copy-pest every time.
but the results r always same as before.

Well winzip is suerly supposed to extract jar files as jar file is nothing but zip files with extension jar. if u build ur all java files preverify them and then use zip tool to zip all of them and then put extension jar .. it will work on device.
