How to create applications for Nokia 5800

    Hi,

Can anybody provide me with a list of the software that I need to download in order to write applications for my phone (Nokia 5800 (model 5800d-1)) using either Visual C++ or Qt. I can, to a certain extent, write software with both of these programs, but I do not know how to create a mobile application from a piece of code that I have written, i.e. how to convert to a SIS or SISX file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Northers

P.S. If someone has a worked example, say the basic 'Hello World' standard, showing it from creation in the development tool through to installation in a mobile device that would be fantastic

    Hi,

You can find a lot of useful material by searching the Wiki. For example, Getting started with Qt for S60 is a good tutorial for getting you started.

Also, the Forum Nokia Library might prove to be useful.

BTW, a guide to create sis files can be found at: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...ning_sis_files

    Hi,
take a look at this article . It shows how to create a sis from a qt code. Make sure that you rebuild complete code with the commands given in that article.

    Hi,

Check this helloworld examplle, It is written for the emulator but you can made a sisx from it.
Copy the code code in a cpp file and run the following command from the command prompt,

    cd c:\helloworld
    C:\Helloworld> qmake -project
    C:\Helloworld> qmake
    C:\Helloworld> make debug-gcce
    C:\Helloworld> createpackage -i heloworld_udeb.pkg

And your sisx file is ready in your helloworld folder.

    hope this wil help you.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. So now what software do I need? I have 'Qt SDK by Nokia v2009.01 (open source)' installed on my PC, is there anything else I need or is this enough?

    Cheers,

    Northers

    Hi,

Do you have Qt garden or temple release installed properly on your PC? These are the version of Qt for S60. You can download the QT-garden here .

    Here is the installation guideline.

These guide provide the information about the software required for the Qt S60 development.

    Hope these helps you.

Re: How to create applications for Nokia 5800

    Hi,

I've managed to get the Helloworld example provided earlier by using the post from James1980, thanks for that, but I can't seem to make it do anything else. No matter what I do to the 'Helloworld' file to make it run differently, i.e. add new buttons, add signals and slots, etc, I keep getting errors when compiling it.

Am I doing something completely wrong here?

Use the command window under "Qt for Symbian".

The easyest way is to use the preinstalled command prompt (Qt for Symbian Command Prompt"), since it sets up the environment when it is starting. You could also import your .pro file into Qtcreator (open existing project) and compile it from there.

Precaution is that you have installed Qt for symbian (with ActivePerl v. 5.6.1.635, you'll have to get that from the net somewhere), Qt SDK for Windows (Qtcreator lives there), and S60 SDK of your choice, 5.th edition for example). Perl is needed for the SDK in order to follow the build steps. You also need an installed Carbide C++ and the OpenC plugin.

If unsure how to setup Qt for symbian, you could watch Alessandro's video tutorials on the topic:
    http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009...t-for-symbian/

    Kind regards,

    Michael
