    Native SIP client in N97???

Does the upcoming N97 have Nokia's native SIP client built into the rom???

Skype integration seems to be in place, but what about the VOIP client?

    Thank you

Re: Native SIP client in N97???

I see conflicting reviews and talks on the net regarding the voip client on the N97, so even I am not sure if its there or not.

Atleast on the N96 it wasnt there but then the N97 is based on a diff OS/S60 version so it could be different from the N96, maybe someone Nokia can confirm, you can also try the end user discussion forum to see if someone there could answer it better http://europe.nokia.com/support
    Cheers,

Re: Native SIP client in N97???

Well, i used Nokia's Remote Device Access facility available here:
    http://apu.ndhub.net/devices

I installed the latest SIP VOIP Settings app on the remote N97 and there was not much use.
Here are the things i observed so far:

    1. New menu appeared in Connectivity Settings called Admin Settings that lets you edit SIP profiles but not codec settings or many other things described in SIP VOIP Settings user manual.

    2. It was always possible to add an "SIP" field to any contact's details but it is not possible to actually dial it.

    3. SIP profile settings seem to be only relating to Video Sharing

    4. Skype integration is not present

Having said this it was announced that Skype integration would be available via firmware updates and with it may come the desired SIP functionality...

...can't say i'm happy at all...

Re: Native SIP client in N97???

Well, it's official - the first incarnation of N97 DOES NOT have a native SIP client or Skype integration:

Could some non-speculating Nokia employee tell us when to expect ROM updates with Skype and VOIP(if at all)???

This forum is reserved for software developers and should not be used for discussing Nokia's end-user offering. The RDA service is a development tool as well so please stop booking it for experimenting with unreleased devices, they don't expose the complete commercial offering anyhow.

So, to answer your question, yes, there is a SIP stack on N97 and if you are a developer you can start writing your VoIP application for it.

Re: Native SIP client in N97???

You know, this so called "VOIP Developer Forum" is just about pointless.
No developer has so far, apart from Nokia itself, made an SIP client that takes advantage of SIP stack with hardware codec transcoding.
    It's ridiculous...

...And all these shallow "accredited developers" buzzing around with pointless comments. It is clearly hard for them to understand that these questions get asked in "developer" forums for the simple reason of Nokia not answering elsewhere.

Everybody knows that SIP stack is present on just about every recent Nokia device. Native SIP client, however, is something quiet elusive on S60 5th.

Public sector user guides generally speak much louder than speculations on final ROM versions. Hence, we instantly switch to questions on ROM updates.
So, please, answer questions posed or keep quiet.

If you expect a Nokia employee to give you info about non-published features or to speculate about firmware updates then I am sorry to disappoint you again, you won't find such things here.

I can only reiterate that Forum Nokia's resources are to be used by software developers only. Polite end-users may get some answers to their more technical questions as well but they are better off discussion on end-user focused forums, like the one indicated above.

Or, if you prefer, contact your favorite VoIP service providers and ask them to make the service available on Nokia phones. We can help them achieve such a goal but there is no way we can help you.
