    grayscale masks for blit method

    Hi,
    I need to have a grayscale (8-bit) transparent mask for an image in my app;
    I read this tutorial
    "How to display transparent PNG on canvas with masks"
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...vas_with_masks

    but when I load an png image (i even tried the one that comes with tutorial) it gives me the following errore message:

    "ValueError: mask must be a binary (1-bit) or grayscale (8-bit) Image"

    I both tried with png and bmp but it seems that there's no way..
    I'm using a 3rd edition phone (N95)

    Does anyone succeded in making a grayscale mask?

    Thanks

    Giuseppe
