    Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    Hello, I'm starting to learn Symbian C++ now and I'm trying to build a very simple Hello World application, following the steps under the documentation in the Library, however, when I try to build the HelloWorld application from Carbide, I get this in the logs:

    Re: Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    RCOMP is the resource compiler, it seems there are some issues with the resource files, please check what you are doing there.

    Actually I'm not doing anything, it's just a plain new GUI project named HelloWorld, and trying to build it.

    Just by the look of the errors, it seems you are using some texts like "Command and forgot to put the closing braces either in your rss file/or the l'x' files, could also be that you are using some resource and have forgotten to close the curly braces or missed out a semi colon at the end, so please do check the resource files again, you will see the error.

    Re: Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    Hy, from what I could see it looks for a file named:HelloWorld_0xE6A6C08E.rsg, what actually is this file? Because I can't seem to find it anywere, is it some file the compiler will create? (it looks, because of the UID)
    I also can't find the .rsc file the says there's a problem...

    .rsg/.rsc files would be generated by the resource compiler after compiling the .rss file, check the sdk for more details :-

    http://library.forum.nokia.com/index...DCF6A6EBB.html

    so ideally you should be looking in your .rss/.rssi/.l'x' files where 'x' is the language code specified in the pkg/mmp file, mostly it should be 10, those are the files which would be the problem ones in your case and hence the reason wy u dont see the generated/compiled files.
    Cheers,
    Mayank

    Re: Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    Can this problem be related to some kind of Perl or WinXP SP3 issue? Because this happens only at work, at home it builds and runs normally :O.

    Re: Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    The 'g' in .xyg files means generated. So such files (mainly .rsg-s and .mbg-s) are generated upon successful compilation of some other file (like HelloWorld_0xE6A6C08E.rss in your case). However since the compilation of that other file fails, the generated file is not generated. And it will not be available when needed.
    Now you have got your hints I think.

    SP does not really matter, the language of your Windows might matter more in fact.

    Re: Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    Hi Zarnick,

    have you been able to build the HelloWorld project successfully?

    I try to do the same with Carbide.c++ v2.0 build 014 and S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0
    I created a S60 GUI Application template project and run build.
    I get errors like:

    Creation Time Description Resource Path Location Type
    1247689369097 the file 'HelloWorld_0xE7866B80.hlp.hrh' cannot be opened HelloWorldAppUi.cpp HelloWorld/src line 21 C/C++ Problem
    1247689369159 undefined identifier 'KGeneral_Information' HelloWorldAppUi.cpp HelloWorld/src line 204 C/C++ Problem

    How did you solve the problem?
    Does anybody else know why the S60 GUI template project wont compile how it is?

    Thanks
    Mirko

    Re: Trying to build a HelloWorld Application

    If you search for KGeneral_Information using the box on the left, you will see that it is a common problem - the help file of the generated projects can not be built with certain configurations. A quickfix is commenting the two problematic lines (the #include and the one referring to KGeneral_Information).
