QA problems with NFL and Nokia 6500 slide

    Hi,

We at Pixelthis have our games as SWF/NFL, and have tested on various S40 devices where the game installs and runs without a problem.

However, we get the following QA feedback when submitting to the OVI store -
    Code:
The file failed QA on the following target(s):
     * Device: S40 5th Edition FP1 - 240x320 - Nokia 6500 slide

Summary: If the user starts the item after installing to the device,
then the user notices an error message as “File format not supported”
As I have said, the game and NFL install and run correctly on other devices. Even though the Nokia 6500 slide is a S40 5th ed FP1, and according to the NFL docs should support NFL and support SWF format.

Are there known issues with the NFL format?
Any indication of what the problem might be?

    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Can you tell me what other Series 40 devices you specified for distribution?

Also what version of Flash Lite is your game published for? The version of Flash Lite that the 6500 slide supports is FL 2.1.

My apology for being blunt and send me an e-mail on this if you disagree but this seems pretty cut and dry to me. It fails on Series 40 5th ed and you should not have included that device in your selection.

Re: QA problems with NFL and Nokia 6500 slide

    Ron,

Remember our content is Flash Lite, wrapped in NFL, and HAS been tested on other S40 5th ed devices.

According to Nokia's own documentation, NFL is supported on all S40 5th edition phones, as well as Flash Lite.
As well as this, Adobe Device Central lists the 6500 slide and it is definitely compatible with our application and version of Flash Lite.
AND it is also listed as compatible on Forum Nokia itself.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,
    Peter

Talking Re: QA problems with NFL and Nokia 6500 slide

    SOLUTION:

Nokia worked very hard on this for us, and the NFL file was re-submitted to QA many, many times. Nokia finally found out what the problem was:

Series 40 devices do not support 'forward lock' (DRM) on NFL files (at least the devices that were tested). This results in the 'file format not supported' message, amongst others.

    HOW TO FIX:
Simply un-check the 'Forward Lock' box against the file when it is published.

Suggestion to Nokia: A much better QA feedback message would be - 'Forward Lock is not supported on this device'!

But thanks for all the help from Nokia - Dario, Ron and others!

    hi,

where is the 'forward lock' option that requires to be unchecked? I looked for it in the archiving option but couldnt find it.

Re: QA problems with NFL and Nokia 6500 slide

    Ciao,

it's the problem only with the Nokia 6500 Slide?
I am asking since from my experience other Nokia S40 5th Ed FP1 and 6th Ed do support .nfl protected with Forward Lock.
Also looks like that now OVI Publish QA will fail your application if you set "Forward Lock".

    Alessandro

Update, here is January OVI Publisher guide:
    http://nds2.fds-download.nokia.com/f...A1D63WEFOESBFR

“WRT, Widgets are not supported. Java applications and *.NFL files for S40 devices are not supported.”
