    GPS without simcard

    I have two Nokia 8210 navigator: one with a simcard one with no simcard.

    Is it possible to use Internal GPS with no sim card?

    In both phones:
    - I disable all GPS positioning servers;
    - I choose only "Integrated GPS".

    Opening the nokia "GPS data" application:
    - The one with the simcard works, it shows signal strengths and sometimes gives me the coordinates;
    - The one with no simcard does not show signal stengths at all.

    Maybe the application uses A-Gps without permission? in this case it would be very bad !

    Thanks in advance to anybody who can help...

    Re: GPS without simcard

    the GPS should work without SIM card, though it will take rather a long time to get a fix by using the GPS only. Anyway, different devices, with different firmwares, might work differently, it is not that long time ago that you couldn't use a Symbian device without a SIM card inserted in it.

    I mean, if without simcard, in an open space, I use Nokia GPS data application, it gives me a good signal strength but it is not able to get the data! (I see more than one satellite with signal strength above 60%).

    No, I have to wait forever (tested in London, in open spaces, for a long time). Instead, with one old simcard and NO assisted gps it works. And this is really strange...

    Waht would be strange ?, Basically the initial fix takes long time, then anything after that takes lot less. No magic there really, since the device stores the last known location..

    Ok, then tell me why i put a simcard and GPS takes locations ( *** no assisted gps enabled, only integrated *** ). I highlight that with no assisted gps enabled i notice a difference in getting location.

    Is there a technical report or technical material that explains how integrated GPS device works ?
    I'm wondering if the integrated GPS uses some information from the sim card (cell number?).

    Thanks

    Titled "GPS without Data"

    I was wondering if this can be accomplished on the E71 .... also?

    any Nokia geniuses or gurus?

    Thanks

    Re: GPS without simcard

    sure you can use Nokia Maps with positioning without using any internet connection. Just use the Maps loader (or Maps updater) to get the maps into your memorycard beforehand, and then just use GPS and disable other options from positioning settings..
