    Python 1.4.5 Text-to-Speech volume level

    Hi,

    I would like to use Text-to-Speech on my N95 however the volume level is quite low and is hard to hear. I searched and found that there is a "set_volume()" method for controlling volume but it doesn't work. To be specific, if I write

    >>> import audio
    >>> audio.Sound_set_volume(100)

    I get

    ""TypeError:unbound method set_volume() must be called with Sound instance as first argument (got int instead)""

    What I want to do is to set the volume level to maximum at the start of my code and later whenever I write
    >>> audio.say('hi')
    I want it to speak out at the highest volume level.

    Does anyone know how to do this?

    Selim

    hello Selim

    the reason is set_volume is a object of Sound not audio.

    Hope you get that

    Hi Gabba88,

    So Is there a way to control the volume in conjunction with the audio.say() command?

    In the book 'Mobile Python' by Schieble & Tuulos, set_volume() is quoted as an additional function for the audio module, which I am trying to use. There are no code examples however, and trying few different things I couldn't get it to set to sound level for the text-to-speak function. I am trying to write a program that is supposed to work while driving a car. You will probably aggree that the default sound level is not sufficient with all the road and engine noise; not unless you are driving a Merc or similar high-end car.

    hello selim

    i have already told you that there is nothing specific API related to text2speech voice control. I feel that depends on the sound of the inbuilt text2speech application.

    In Symbian S60 5th Edition, you can set tts volume by going to Settings->Phone->Voice commands, selecting the Options softkey and choosing "Settings" from the option menu: you should find a "Playback volume" option (please note that I'm translating menu items from Italian, so I'm not sure the names are 100% correct).

    Re: Python 1.4.5 Text-to-Speech volume level

    Hi. It's a pity but the .say function doesn't allow to select from the different voices that may be installed on the phone neither to fix volume or speed. What's more, yf I try to make it say a few words in a sentence it throws an error or warning and doesn't work. So, what I've done is to record the voice messages in .wav or .mp3 files and use those files, where I can set various parameters. I hope this function is improved in the future, cause it may be very useful, specially for blind users as myself.

    I wish there was also a way to set the volume from the script, anyway the solution posted by nokixela works, so..
    thank you Alessandro!
