Help with H.264 encoder in 5th edition

We are trying to do some encoding on some Symbian phones from Nokia that we have as a target platform for our product and we have a need to do some H.264 video encoding. The phone we have reports that it has an H.264 encoder available, but we have been unable to access nor use it. According to an article that we have read, it appears we need to pay Nokia in some way in order to gain access permissions to use the encoder that comes on the phone. Does anyone know how we go about doing this or might know of a company that is doing H.264 Encoder development that we could talk to and buy an encoder for our needs. Please let me know if anyone knows anything that can help. Thanks.

usual less painful solution is port H.264 Encoder using OpenC/C++ to symbian

I don't think the paying would help, AFAIK if there is codec in the device, you should be able to use it.
anyway, how did you query that it is there ?,
how did you tried using it ?
    and what did excatly happen?

Also you can try dev video api from the plug-in: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/SDK_API_Plugin

H264 encoder is there in N93i as it supports recording in that format.

    -k-

Are you referring to the Open Source x264 free h264/avc encoder from VideoLAN?

We've tried, and can setup input and output parameters and initialize the encoder in a DevVideo instance object and start the recording, but we don't get any encoded buffers coming back from it. The callback method, that's supposed to deliver the encoded buffers, doesn't get called and so we don't get the encoded buffers to do anything with. That is our problem with the H.264 codec.

    >>anyway, how did you query that it is there ?,
Using the GetEncoderListL( ) method inside the DevVideo class object, and then getting parameters and existing codecs from that and trying some of them. There's an application that uses this method to output a log file of all the codecs that exist on a S60 device that we tried and started our attempts as a basis. http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Codecs

That is what we are using. We use a CCamera object instance to capture which camera we want to use - we really want the front-facing camera, (which we have captured from), but right now we are playing with the back camera (because it's easier to point and capture video from something we can point the phone at) and have had trouble with the H.264 encoder on the device. We have gotten a mp4v-es and H.263 encoder working on both cameras capturing and encoding video and returning a buffer with encoded data, however, we have had issues as mentioned above with the H.264 encoder.

Hopefully this explains what our problem is, where we are at with our problem, and what we are trying to accomplish. Any help would be appreciated.
