Question QA failed: game N95 landscape not available

We have all builds passed QA except the Nokia N95 running in 240x320 screen fine and when the user goes into landscape mode we show a black screen with a rotation icon to indicate the game is to be used on the other screen mode.

It's very common for games only to run in one screen mode, and we've seen many games out there with the same issue. And actually we have some other games approved adopting this approach.

Any experience regarding the QA possition on this and how to get a more reliable QA approval on the N95 (and other orientation changable models)?

    QA feedback:
Failed, If the user starts the application in landscape mode or change the screen orientation from portrait mode to landscape mode, then the user notices that in landscape mode the application screen is seen blank with an rotating arrow mark in the center. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Download and install the content in the device. 2. Start the application from the application manager in Portrait mode. 3. Change the screen mode from Portrait to Landscape. 4. Notice the above mentioned behavior. ACTUAL RESULTS: There is a blank screen when the user switches from Portrait to Landscape mode. EXPECTED RESULTS: Content is displayed on device screen without any issues and is free of any illegibility and cropping issues. The content also follows different screen modes handling listed in the information provided by the Publisher. DEVICES REPRODUCED: Nokia N95 Firmware version v30.0.015, Nokia N96 Firmware version 10.065. Note: Application is working fine in 5800 xpress music both in landscape and portrait

NOTE: we have the 5800 using the jad/manifest entry to fix it in portrait mode

I believe the tester has simply misunderstood the requirement. You app does (presumably) display "free of illegibility or cropping issues". The requirement does not specify that the application must display the same content in both orientations.

I would expect the functionality you describe to pass JV.

    Thanks Graham!

We also expected this to pass as we have no clipping issues... We'll comment and lock for new QA round... fingers crossed.

    We'll post the outcome.

Why not show always show the portrait version even in landscape mode? This way, you would prevent accidentiell switching to your rotate icon forth and back if the user shakes the device or so.

Thanks for your message! For the 5800/N97 we managed to keep app in portrait without rotating the view (jad entry to fix game in portrait). on N95 however this won't work and you'll get clipping issues as a part of the screen will not be visible when changing the view. this will cause a fail due to clipping issues.

    Hello Lunaforte,

Did you get any feedback on this approach (showing a message/icon to say rotate back) passed ok?

    Cheers,

    James
