Autostart question for 2nd edtion devices

    Hello all,
I've been searching around the forum and site for a way to autostart a python file that has been turned to a .si. I've read its easy for 3rd edition devices but i have not found a way for 2nd edition devices .
1-Does anyone know a way to start a .sis file in second edition after rebooting?
2-When using ensymble and adding --autostart without giving a specific UID, it will make a UID with an E, IF i sign this file in symbian, will it work or do i need a developer ID?

    Thank you

    hello eng_electric

if you need to make your application autostart then you need the UIDs in the protected range, therefore if you not mention the UID in your application during the py2sis command that will not make the application autostart.

So if I specify a UID within a protective range, can i self sign it online? Or will i need another requirement?

    Thank you

AFAIK you cant get it signed it at the symbian signed online with a protected range uid you need a devcert or a publisher id for that which may be bit costly.

Oh I understand now. Thank you so much for the information .

Has there been any luck for an autostart to work on second edition phones without having to use 3rd party applications or going deep into C++ symbian?

    Thank you

Re: Autostart question for 2nd edtion devices

    Hello gaba88

I thought i would just put a random uid that is in a protected range, and then do a self sign with ensymble. But after reading the read me and as u said, i do need the devcert.

I found for the 2nd edition in this link
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...Edition_phones

But that alone is still confusing since i don't know where I'm suppose to change it to the required to call my code nor what compiler to use
