Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

Since Nokia discontinued Carbide.j I've downloaded the Java SDK 3rd FP1 (targetting Nokia N82) and Eclipse 3.5.0. You are supposed to install a plug in so Eclipse can create a S60 MIDLet, but I can't find out how to do this. all the Symbian installation documentation seems to be based on Carbide.j which they dicontinued a while ago, and no longer even make available for download.

So does anyone know of installation instructions for the Java SDK with Eclipse 3.5.0 (the latest version)?
Or know how to do it?
Or know how to do it with an older verison of Eclipse, and where I can get that version.

It was so easy with android. They just had screen shot after screen shot, based on the current verion of the SDKs, showing how to do what was a rather complicated download.

Re: Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

I haven't tried that particular SDK but these articles may help:
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...ar_and_Eclipse
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph..._tools_for_S60

And if you're interested, Carbide.j is still available here:

Re: Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

There is a Bug in the S60 3rd ed FP1 / Eclipse-MTJ that stop the device detection.

    see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=278171

If you need FP1 features, you can apply the proposed patches and you will be able to load old devices. I don't think that this patch will be included in future releases because the bug is in the SDK file structure and the patch makes mtj much weaker.

On the other hand newer SDK (since 3rd ed. FP2) work fine with the last release of eclipse / MTJ (namely pulsar).

How do I aply theJava SDK 3rd FP1 patch?

    Hi,

I´m very new in eclipse development.

How do I apply this patch on MTJ? Or what do you mean with apply?

I´m sorry for this stupid question, but as I said, I´m pretty young in eclipse development.

    kind regards

Re: Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

it is not very easy ... you are supposed to download the source code of the last release of mtj, apply the patches (with command patch), recompile the packages which produces a couple of jar files and install them (just move) in the eclipse directory. I could send you these files but it not sure this will work (different locals, ecc.).

If it is not absolutely necessary I suggest to use new SDKs (3rd ed FP2 or 5th ed.) waiting for an update related to FP1 device problem.

    bye

Re: Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

    Hi,

I would like to develop a Java ME applikation for NOKIA E51 or newer!

    NOKIA E51 supports S60 3rd FP1, do you think I can also use S60 3rd FP2 instead?

what is the biggest difference between them?

    kind regards,

Yes you can use the FP2 SDK and it will work on FP1 as long as you use only the APIs that are available in FP1.

Re: Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

    Hello commend,

have you tried searching by browsing right down the root of S60 SDKs (the path is something like C:/S60/devices)?

Also trying latest S60 3rd Ed., FP2 SDK (v1.1.) might work better instead of the Beta: http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._One_SDKs.html

Re: Java SDK 3rd FP1 with Eclipse

    I found a curious Nokia's from http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/E51
website. By clicking the APIs, not found a green link "Java API Access Permissions". E51 uses Java SDK 3rd FP1. For all other phone models, the green link "Java API Access Permissions" is there. Is it missing or anything to do with current Eclipse MTJ & Java SDK 3rd FP1 problem?

If E51 device is different than the other models with "Java API Access Permissions", so where to find those differencies?
