Hi,

I think you can develop but its will be very difficult, I think you should use native symbian c++ api for UI and for other backgroung that you can do in open C++.

here is link for example
Use Qt-Quick to make your application UI more attractive.

Hi, kkrish
Open C++ is same as standard C++, isn't it?
I don't know Symbian C++ well.
Therefore, I want to use Open C++.
What can I do?
Regards,

Re: How to develop Symbian GUI application by using Open C++?

Open C/C++ is a collection of common C/C++ libraries ported to Symbian. They enable writing some programs using those common library APIs (instead of the native Symbian C++ APIs). However, there are no GUI libraries so if you want to write a Symbian GUI application in C++, you will have to use the native Symbian C++ APIs. Below the GUI level you can use both native and Open C/C++ APIs.

(In the future, the Symbian GUI will be based on the Qt libraries so then you will be using the Qt APIs. For now, Symbian Qt is only available as a beta and is not really ready yet for writing applications you plan to release today.)

So the answer to the original question
Can I develop Symbian GUI application by using Open C++?
is no. You can use Open C/C++ in a GUI application, but open C/C++ alone is not sufficient for a GUI application.

So.. I can implement a main game cicle in Open C++, and the configuration window in native Symbian c++ (as example), ... can I call a Symbian View from OpenC? Can I use ActiveObjects in Open C++? could you give us specific samples about this topics.

Thanks!

Re: How to develop Symbian GUI application by using Open C++?

Open C/C++ code can be mixed fairly freely with Symbian C++ code. You can indeed write a game loop in Open C++, but you'd have to use Symbian C++ or Qt for the drawing code (or RGA, but that's already deprecated, so probably best avoided). You can also use Active Objects in Open C++.

There are some examples if you search here on Forum Nokia and also some on the Symbian Foundation developer website.
