    Basic Questions

    I have these basic questions:

I am trying to build an application on Nokia NFC 6212 device. I wanted to read the IMEI of the device, unfortunately "System.getProperties()" call returned null. I was told that i may have to buy certificate from verisign.

    My Questions:

    1. Is it necessary to obtain certificates in order for my application to install/work?

    2. Other than IMEI what are the other data that would be blocked by the certificate.

    3. I will need to use OTA , GPRS, contacless card read & write features. Will I need the certificate for all of these?

For reading IMEI No, there is CTelephony API in 3rd edition. You can find more detail from Symbian C++ SDK.

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that I work with J2ME application API's.

    Re: Basic Questions

In J2me - On Series 40 phones this requires that your MIDlet is signed to either operator or manufacturer domain, and this is only available in Series 40 3rd Edition, FP1 devices and newer.

For getting this type of certificate refer to FN Wiki: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...acturer_Domain

Verisign certificate may not get you IMEI no, for others it will work.
