getting OutOfMemory on nokia 6720 classic.

    Hi All,

While running the j2me app on the nokia 6720 we are getting OutOfMemory error.
Runtime memory drops on the phone very fast, there isn't memory leaks from the app side as it works fine on other device having even less runtime memory perfectly.

Has any one faced the same issue on nokia 6720???

    Thanks
    Manish

OutOfMemoryErrors almost always happen because you've used more memory than is available on the device.

Can you give some clues as to what the application is doing? For example, does load, create or otherwise manipulate images? Does it use the 2D or 3D graphics API?

On what devices does your application work?

    Graham.

In case you are using Images which might trigger the out-of-memory exception :

Thumbs up Re: getting OutOfMemory on nokia 6720 classic.

6720 is a s60 device with unlimited jar and heap size so if u r still getting out of memory then it means that there is some problem with code like :

creating objects (Image, string etc)in an unlimited loop or
loading some resources of very large size.

    Please mention about ur application.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your replies.
App is GPS tracking app. It runs fine on other nokia devices and other devices having far more lower heap memory (1MB).
So it doesn't look like a code problem to me as it runs on the device with 1mb.
App loads fine on 6720 works for around 30/40 minutes then throws OutOfMemory.

    Thanks
    Manish

On what devices does it work?

Does it fail on any other devices?

Have you tried the app on any other Series 60 devices? Which ones?

Are you using getLocation() or setLocationListener() to get the location information?

    Hi Graham,

Same app works on many motorola lower end devices.
We have tried the same app on other S60 devices like N70, N72, N95 it seems to be working fine on all these devices never faced OutOfMemory on these.

We use both getLocation and setLocationListener but never both at same point of time.

    Thanks

Create One more memory monitor thread, and try calling System.gc() everytime free heap/runtime memory goes below <500kb and see if the app is able to RuN for more time on Nokia 6700.
