Question NDEF message/record size and phone buffer size

Using a type 4 tag and auto launching on an NFC-Forum external type record I was wondering, what is the max. limitations on the 6212 and 6131 regarding NDEF message/record size as well as phone buffer size (ISO14443A-4 level)?

The NFC-forum spec. for type 4 tag defines the NDEF file/message length field as two bytes and the NFC-forum spec. for NDEF specifies the record payload length field as four bytes (which is a bit contradicting). So I was thinking what limits were implemented in the phones. Can I have a 20KB NDEF record, auto launch and receive the 20KB in the phone application (recordDetected(NDEFMessage ndefMessage))?

Unhappy Re: NDEF message/record size and phone buffer size

The result of my own quick analysis (trial and error) shows that the first limit I have reached is at 256 bytes. At this record size the 6212 reads the NDEF correctly (the protocol commands and responses seen on the target side is correct). The 6212 decodes the record type (NFC-forum external type) correctly and auto starts the application but the 'recordDetected()' event is never received, so the record is lost. Below the 256 byte record size everything works fine.
The 6131 don't seem to have the same problem at 256 bytes, on this platform every thing works fine. I will try with larger record sizes on the 6131 ASAP.

Forgot to mention that the 6212 do send the 'recordDetected()' event if the application is manually started first and then touching the tag.

Re: NDEF message/record size and phone buffer size

I have reached the upper limits (max. size) of the NDEF record, on the 6131 and 6212 platforms!

    6131:
On auto launch and on manual start, of the MIDlet application, the upper limit (max. size) of the NDEF record is 10222 bytes (~10KB)

    6212:
On auto launch the upper limit is 256 bytes (this must be a bug!!!).
On manual launch the upper limit is as for the 6131, 10222 bytes (~10KB)

It would have been nice to know these numbers in advance (where is all the Nokia specialists with all the information?). ;o)
